If you don't need a lot of ins and outs I'd say go for an M-audio Audiophile 2496 card. It is not feature packed, but it sounds excellent and is very compatible. I'd say the sound quality on that card is pro

Depends on whether you want a sound card with midi or not. The audiophile has midi, the 4/4 does not. It also depends on how many audio lines in and out you want.

delta 4/4 - 4 in, 4 out
delta 6/6 - 6 in, 6 out
Audiophile- 2 in, 2 out, digital in/out, midi in/out
Delta 10/10 - 10in/out, digital in/out, midi in/out

they are all made by M-Audio. and remember, you need 2 lines in or out to run a stereo signal

but I am a little confused here...

you see, I am a newbie-newbie when it comes to hardware for production...

here is the situation :
i currently have a yamaha cs2x, korg electribe-r, orbit dance planet 909, and I am planning buying some more equipment very soon.
I want to connect them all with my pc, and use cubase for sequencing.
what sound card should be the best for me?

I am also planning to buy behringer virtualizer 2024, do you have any opinions on that? is it a good effect proccessor for this genre of music?
what else effect proccessors would you recomment in order to get that "real" sound?

oh, and another question, if the soundcard has only 1 midi-in / out, how will all the equipment can be connected with the pc?

Get a sound card that does not have any midi, but rather lots of audio in/outs. Then get a seperate midi interface. Preferably a 4x4 midi interface. Becasue you have so many devices, you will need seperate midi outs for each device.

I would suggest something like a delta 10/10lt. It's cheaper than the 10/10 and has some extras.

As far as midi connection go, have a look at the USB midisport 4x4 or 8x8. Remember the 10/10lt will have 1x1 midi as well, so that will make it 5 by 5 or 9 by 9.

There are other companies offering soundcard solutions like teratec, but m-audio is always a safe option. It's going to cost you quite a bit whatever brand you go for though becasue of the amount of connections you need. Your other option is to get a hardware mixer and mix everything in that, then send a single signal to the soundcard, although you will still need all the midi lines

That's one option, the advantage doing it this way is that you can use software plugins as an effect box for your synths. Alternatively you could go for a soundcard with two inputs and two outs, and get a mixer where you route all the sound sources in to your computer. This is cheaper than getting a card with a lot of ins\outs (for instance delta 10/10lt). Doing it this way you can't use your software as an effect box for your hardware, but you can always get a cheap half decent multi effects box and hook it up to your mixer

Both options have pros and cons.. you need to find out what sounds cool to you

First of all I'd get a mixer with a lot more inputs than you need right now, maybe 14 or 16!! This is good because you can add a lot of hardware, besides if you have a synth with a lot of outputs you can use the different outputs of the synth with the mixer. This lets you add different effect buss settings to each output of the synth if you understand me?

Mackie makes great mixers, they're a bit expensive but they sound good. I have a small Behringer mixer and it is alright, but nothing too good. I don't use the EQ on the mixer much, but I don't think the EQ is too good on the behringer either. Behringer got sued by Mackie because Behringer copied a lot from the Mackie mixer, this must mean that they can't be that bad hehe

so I am heading for a mixer... I have heard good comments for a brand "spiritfolio", anyone heard of it?

supposing I have a mixer and all the audio outs are plugged into it, what type of sound card would be the most appropriate?


what about the behringer virtualizer? noone has any comments?
