The Lab - Sweden's First Dance Festival
Earlier this week, in a press conference at the Radisson SAS (www.radissonsas.com) hotel in Malmö, Malmö-based promotors Lounge Lab La Résistance AB announced their plans to host the single largest indoor dance event in the history of Sweden at Malmö Mässan (www.malmomassan.se) on October 11, 2003 (22:00-06:00).
15,000 visitors will come to the southern-Swedish city of Malmö (www.malmo.se) to enjoy 16 of the world’s best DJs on 3 stages in a one-night spectacle of music, dance, light, sound and video. DJs involved include world-class stars as John Digweed, Derrick May, Michel de Heij, Marco V, DJ Remy, Malmö-based Minilogue and Copenhagen stars Kox Box and Delicious.
Speaking for Lounge Lab La Résistance AB, executive promotor Bastiaan Flink said at the press conference: “It is absolutely unique for Sweden to be host to an international dance event of this magnitude. Needless to say, I’m extremely grateful to everyone involved in this huge undertaking: from the Malmö police- and fire departments to Malmö Tourism, the Malmö Mässan organization and all our partners and sponsors.”
Present to answer questions at the press conference were representatives from the city of Malmö, Malmö Tourism and Tommy Bernshed, VD, Malmö Mässan AB.
Giving back to the community that supports them, the Lounge Lab™ crew has opted to support the Malmö Mission’s shelter for women as The Lab’s™ official charity. Commenting on this choice, Archie Whittaker, Sales and marketing manager, Lounge Lab La Résistance AB, said: “I am delighted to announce our close co-operation with the Malmö Mission today. It’s a very powerful feeling to be in a position to create awareness of the situation these women are in and to give back to the community we’re all involved in.”
The Malmö Mission provides shelter and support to an average of 4,000 people on a yearly basis, of which 25% women. Birthe Wallin Rudolw, speaking for the Malmö Mission, expressed her delight at the press conference about The Lab’s™ support.
The Lab™ will open the doors for the growing dance community in Sweden. Reclassifying DJs as artists, in close co-operation with Skattemyndigheten, allows not only Lounge Lab™, but also other organizers willing to organize such events, to charge the reduced VAT (MOMS) rate of 6% on ticket sales.
Tickets for The Lab™ are currently on sale, nationwide in Sweden (through BiljettDirekt: http://www.ticnet.se) and Denmark (through BilletNet: http://www.billetnet.dk).
