not sure where in queensland, but you should probably go for the industry standard turntables.. Technics 12 series (1200's or 1210's). Mixers vary across the brands, pioneer, behringer etc all really depends on how much you want to spend and how good you want them to be. I recommend a 3 channel mixer to anyone starting out because you never know when you might want to add an extra input like a CD deck or the like, so always good to have that spare channel. As for headphones, in my opinion, these babies are what you should invest in most. Nothing like mixing to crisp sounds in you ears, you will notice improvement in your mixing much faster as well. Good ones around are the Senheisers HD-25, but you are looking at around $400, depends where you get them from .. these are awesome, but there are ones around that range that compare as well. Then keep lots of money for vinyls, you will need it

enjoy

I agree with Gilmista; the equipment u get will have a big influence on how good u become and how fast...

Everyone will tell u to go the Technics 1200 or 1210s, that's because these are pretty much the industry standard. Sure u can get cheeper ones (or more expensive ones for that matter), but all the clubs and even the big events like Two Tribes and Godskitchen use these, so it's probably best to get used to them from the start (they are also very solid, have a good torque, and will last you a looonnngg time)

As for a mixer.. get one that has at least 3 channels so there's room for expansion. Usually u can get the same mixer in both 2 and 3 channel. But the brand and hence quality of the mixer depends on your budget. Best not to go overboard here as you can always upgrade to a better one when u've decided you want to stick with dj'ing.

Headphones. Get a decent pair. You want to hear everything that's going through your mixer channels, not just what your headphones want you to hear. Again headphones can get very expensive, so look at your budget. Those Sennheiser HD-25s are awesome, but they do cost around $400, and there are cheaper ones that will do the job fine.

Speakers. Well this is totally upto you. You can play your mixing through your bedroom stereo, or you can go all out and spend $30 grand on a pair of those Yamagatchi, or whatever they're called, loud speakers.

I'm really not sure where to go in QLD for dj gear. If u look hard and ask around there should be a few speciality shops. (Even the Sanity dance arenas will stock dj equipment - but it's expensive) Look at prices on the net just for reference, and also look at second hand Technics turntables as they last for ever.

Also take a look at the: "What equipment are you guys using" thread, It should be still up, just have to look for it in the subsequent threads pages after the first one.

Hope this helps, and best of luck with ur djing.

i disagree on needing a decent pair of headphones. Ive got some 60 dollar sony's and they do the job fine. Sure they arnt those pioneer 1000s but they do the job fine. I agree on not skimping on decks however.

Sennheiser HD200's are amazing headphones, sound IMHO nearly as good as the hd25s (had both for 4 months) and are way more comfortable for long sets. The only cost around $200 as well, and are built like a brick shithouse, and i like how they look.

I'm pretty sure they don't make those anymore. I had a pair but didn't particularly like them. Though they were good for $160.

a - go for vinyl

b - get technics 12xx series

c - since you are in brisbane - goto central station (its just near queen st mall - www.centralstation.com.au

d - you will get better prices off the internet - sadly, you'll have to crank out the parents visa (what a shame.. )

e - teach yourself how to mix - get your own style happening, you will be much better for it.

f - as for headphones - get the best ones you can afford.

thats all i can think of.. 0h change your avatar.
