Fake/Knockoff 1200s?

I've heard about people selling fake or cheaply made (as in unofficial) Technics 1200s...I was wondering if this was just a rumor. I also read awhile ago to be careful when buying on ebay as some of the 1200s there are not real even though they may appear to be. Do these even exist? If so, how could someone even make a fake 1200 well enough to sell it without people getting wise?

Now why would people make fake sl1200's... You see the difference really fast, and if you don't, the maker of the fake TT must have put alot of money in it to find parts that have the same quality as the parts in the original sl1200
Things to check:
the tonearm
pitchfader
platter
isolation

And, the weight...
