it doesn't say what subs he uses! 72 amps for 9 subs. If my calculations are right that is 8 amps per sub = Modified subs with quad voice coils built to take two amps per coil.
Its highly likely that he runs them at 1 ohm. So at an RMS rating of 1500W that is 12,000W RMS. For 9 subs that is 108,000W RMS!!! Max power for the subs could be 216,000Watts. CHRIST ALMIGHTY. What a system!
Edit: i jsut noticed that the guy in question is Troy Erving. He is probably using his specially adapted Treo subs. As a young competitor he was the first guy ever, and youngest, to use a multi amp per voice coil setup and he completely smashed all records back in 2001. he set the last world record at something like 177.2db, but as u can see from the site he was marginally beaten. He reckons his subs will beat the 180dB barrier, and i have utmost confidence that he will.
But that isn't all. The largest sound system of all time, which is currently being tweaked is in Kam Jagpal Transit van. he has 108 liquid cooled amps running 108 15" Pioneer subs. All of which are prototypes. he has 8 BMW 760il Alternators each giving out 160A. and something like 10 miles of cabling inside it!
