Question Speakers?

Hey All

Im looking at getting some new speakers for my set up at home. I need something fairly cheap but that can belt out some decent sound at a decent volume. i have no clue where to start here so any help would be mostly appreciated

main use for these babies will be when im practising and house parties.

I agree, CV are what I have for monitors in my studio. I have always been a fan of CV. They carry very well with bassy tracks and the bass is usually quite tight! Pioneer used to be good, but I don't think that they really put out speakers that are good for Djing anymore. Polk is another brand that has been traditionally good, but I think that they will be slightly more expensive.

those speakers dont have great sound, according to the reviews, but for the price I guess they're alright.

"if you have an amp that is less than 100watts per channel the listening quality fades!"

Your mini system probably has 60watts per channel or below (as most mini systems do) so you would definately need a decent amp for these, and really any other good speaker.

What is your price range like? How much do you care about sound quality? Would you buy an amp for them?

If you dont care about sound quality that much you could get a pretty loud system for a good price. I just got a pair of Quest Tower speakers from futureshop for $100.00 CND, pair that up with an 8" powered sub (i got mine as a floor model for $100.00) and an amp that's on sale for like 250.. thats a total of 450.00 cnd (320.00 US). It works. loud sound, sufficiant bass.. But if you want quality sound, speaker prices go up pretty high. you can get a good pair of floorstanders for around 1000 cnd.

Always try to get deals though, keep a lookout for sales and even used gear.

Okay, here is where you start...

First, how much can you spend on the system? You have a minisystem, right? You might want to sell it.

Are you interested in some active monitors that will point at you AND some big stereo speakers to thump the party with? What is your total budget? What about amplification? What else will the speakers be used for?

What is that, 675 CND?

so take 275 for the amp, and you're left with 400.00 for speakers. not that much.. but you can get away with a pair of Polk Audio R30 or Athena ASF1 tower speakers.

should be good enough for your purposes!
