Worm Popper Thanks to Brent....

It all started when my wife bought me tickets to PVD at HOB in Orlando a few months ago...

Up until then, I really hadn't listened to much trance. As a matter of fact, I really didn't prefer it at all. I have an old Kimball Collins CD from Trance Nation that I realy enjoyed, but just hadn't "found" trance yet. Anyway, my wife surprized me with the tickets, after we had seen that PVD was coming to Orlando. At the time I had his Politics of Dancing CD, but hadn't heard it all the way through even. I have to admit, I was a "Breaks" person... Like I explained it to Brent, Trance to me was like one of those 3D pictures in the mall, that you have to stare at for awhile before the 3D picture comes into view - when you relax your eyes. Trance has been the same to me... it's taken me a long time to learn how to "see" the amazing music contained inside...

Well, I bought the Global PVD DVD, and slowly, through immersion, or whatever, I slowly fell in love with it. Along the way, I was posting at Enation.org, where Zewad "took me under his wing"... and exposed me to some really good music, and to TA.

So here I am. On a music search. Brent is away, and I was hoping to get some recommendations on new music. I've been enjoying Tiesto's Nyana for the last few weeks, but as always, am on that "search". I was also wanting some recommendations on seeing Oakenfold in Orlando... I really don't like Bunka that much..... I have his CD set "Travelling", and REALLY like it..

I guess I'm becoming a TA. My music quest has definately shifted to Trance. I am most familiar with PVD, Oakenfold, Tiesto, ATB, and Sasha's new one. I bought Digweed's "Stark Raving Mad" but don't care for it much at all. I think my craving is for euphoric, uplifting Trance. For example, I enjoy CD2 of Nyana more than CD1 for some reason.

Well, hope to hear from you all... for now ATB's "Addicted to Music" is my latest purchase.. Let me know what to look for, or perhaps some older "standards".

R

Welcome to TA and welcome to trance.

I think it's time for you to start collecting live sets by these DJs. CDs are good and fun but I feel they don't truly give you a sense of each DJ. Try downloading sets from TA's download section.
Or http://www.djmixes2k.com/

Progressive DJs, like Digweed, Sander Kleinenberg, and Sasha, will take more listening before you can appreciate them. I started out with uplifting trance (PvD, AvB, Tiesto) and slowly moving towards progressive. I would suggest storing that Digweed CD for 2 years and come back to it. You'll be surprised.

Brent pointed me to the live sets once, and I haven't been back for a while. I had a question that he didn't know the answer to at the time...maybe someone here does.. are the sets recorded in MONO? I know the sound comes out on 2-channels, but was curious if they are separate, or the same?

It's funny you say to wait, becaue that's how it always seems to have been.. I end up "finding" stuff that I've had for a while.

Thanks for the reply! I'll check out the sets...

What do you know about that "Anti-leech" plugin that DJMIXES2K makes you install, to get the live sets?

It's a small java applet. Basically it masks the link to the file. It doesn't install any spyware or adware on your box.

Here's a list of DJs I recommend in no specific order.
Trance:
Tiesto
Armin van Buuren
Ferry Corsten
Paul van Dyk
Matt Hardwick

Progressive:
James Holden
Gabriel & Dresden
Sasha
Digweed
Sander Kleinenberg

Techno:
Chris Liebing
Mauro Piccotto
