Question Technics SL1210 MK2 optimal settings?

Kay guys after spinning CDs for 2 years I finally bought my first vinyl deck today. I bought it used and it seems to work great, but I have some questions:
The guy who I bought the deck from has been in the business for 7 years now so I'll take that as a credible issue to think that the deck is well configured. But I wanna be sure I'm not wearing down my records too much or something. I'm using a Concorde Scratch, and the tonearm is set to 2 and anti-skating around 0,3. I've had no skips whatsoever so far but I wanna make sure they are not too heavy. What is anti-skating btw? I intend on buying some Whitelabels soon. Oh and another thing, is it true that the pitch even after 0 (between 0 and 0.5%) is going backwards(slower)?'Cos the guy told me that to speed the track up I have to move it above 0.5% to really see differences. Or do I just need to replace the pitch?
Thanks for your help
Cheers!

What he meant is that the (older) Technics pitch slider isn't quite as accurate near to 0%, so you might have to adjust it more to get the same pitch shift compared to if you started at, say, 4%. I think the new slider on the Mk3 doesn't have the same problem.

And anti-skating is designed to combat the tonearm pulling towards the centre of the record.

IIRC there is a pot inside that can sort this problem out too, I'm sure there's some guides on the net you can find with google if you don't mind opening things up.

Your optimal settings really depend on a number of variables. What you plan to be doing on your decks, what carts you have etc. I have my counterweight at the least possible before the needle skips and the anti-skate at the same level. I can’t remember what my height is set at, I think it’s 1.5, but it’s set up so that that when the needle is on the record it’s parallel and not having to reach up or lean down.
