Idea Who's insured their records?

I searched for *insur* and couldn't find anything relevant, only something about inacoma having her car smashed up, which while vaguely amusing (j/k) wasn't much help.

So who here has their records insured and with which company?

insurance..now that's a novel idea. I actually never thought of doing that.
(not that I have enough vinyl or equipment that's worth insuring)

Covered under our Home&Contents insurance, though we don't actually play out.

Remember you have to value it at REPLACEMENT cost

You records are only covered uner household insurance if they get burgled from your house. if you are a working dj & they get stolen from a club, under the tools of trade exclusion, they wont be covered & it is very difficult to get them covered by declaring them under the policy also.

The fact is, whether they are insured or not, if you get your records stolen, there's gonna be a shitload of stuff that you will never be able to replace... my worst nightmare.

Exactly. If I ever decide to start DJing as an actual career (rather than a hobby I hope to get quite good at) I'll have to get proper insurance, but then I'll also need to get an APRA license :/

"I'll have to get proper insurance, but then I'll also need to get an APRA license :/"

please explain to me the APRA license, what it entitles you do to, why you need it, how you get it, ecetera if you wouldnt mind.

Someone stealing someone elses records is wrong. Id rather the thief took both my decks and my mixer, before they stole one record. Sure they are worth more, but easily replaceable. Having your records stolen would suck. However i take comfort in the fact that records when together are heavy and i doubt some junkie would take them rather than something lighter and worth more.

I think you need an APRA license to play tunes in public, or for profit .. I'm not really sure...

The club also needs one as well, as does any public space that plays music (I think, don't take my word for it..)

I dont know that you need an APRA specific licence but i do know that with my dads business (hes an auto-electrician) there not allowed to have the radio on in the workshop becuase if a customer hears it then its considered "entertainment" and you have to have an entertainment license from the local council!!!

Just another sign of how fucked up this country is!!!
