Dunno Help with recording?

Hey all...

Just would like some help with recording mixes.

Are tape recorders sufficient?? Mine is pretty crappy, doesnt have any record levels on it and im just connecting it to my mixer. How is the best way to monitor sound using a tape recorder like this? Does anyone recommend another way to record that is easier and better??

I would just apreciate any advice on problems I might face when i record with eq and all that... so any comments (particularly the best way to set it all up!!) would be great!!

Thanks guys and girls!
