Trance Tunes To Be Played In The Early Set

Hey Peoples,

Im playing @ a big trance party next weekend, and even though I have played dance parties before I havent done that many opening sets. I would like some suggestions of tracks out new/old that are best played in the first set.

I would appreciate it very much

Cheers

PS: seems all the tunes I wanna play are best for the peak of the party! ARGH! hehe

Re:

My best advice to u is to to start off with some progressive stuff or even some breakbeats early on in your set. If you like it hard, go with a bit of techno. Whatever suits your style.

I say it all depends who's playing after you. Find out what speed the DJ after you is playing and either play at the same speed or a tad slower. Depending on how many people are there when you play,,, I don't think there's any point blasting out your HUGE tunes for an opening set if nobody is there. Take enough recs with you so that you can go if a few diffrent directions depending on the situation =)

Good luck!

i agree with all the posts above

though...

unless you're a super star dj, you're more than likely in the position where pleasing the crowd may not necessarily mean pleasing yourself. for instance, you may be a hard trance addict, but you could only get a gig playing trance. for someone like tiesto it doesnt matter, he plays melodic techtrance and people came to hear him play melodic techtrance, but in your case it sounds like you like to play more powerful stuff in a situation where you may have to tone it down.

SO, play what you like, always, thats true, develop a style, but learn to like different types of tunes. for instance, find a couple progressive tracks, downtempo tracks, techy tracks that you like and fit your style so that in situations where you're opening, closing, or sustaining a party, you have some to play in your style (respectively).

i agree prog opens great. i like tracks like Way Out West - mindicrus (g&d mix), andain - beautiful things (g&d), jxl tunes, throw in some sasha, etc. or go the more tribal house/prog route with tracks by PQM, chab, nukem.

ps- i love prog but i have to DJ hard house, latin house, dnb, even hip hop. and i'll never be a super star dj.

Dude, if youre opening, that means you just havent made it yet, so that should be your immediate goal. My advice-take control of whatever crowd you have to work with, play FLAWLESSLY, be a little creative and see what the crowd is really into, and make sure you have at least 20 demo cds to throw to the crowd, its all about promotions my man. Make a name for yourself you know? As for what tunes to start with, thats really up to you, if youre there to spin trance, i say start hard and progressive, my fave right now for just that would be maybe signet by 2players, G&M remix. Great song! Such an awesome build up and energy, and its very trancy. Just my opinion of course
