hey, i completely understand where you are coming from. i was into trance and used to get the odd tune and be overwhelmed by the pure joy i would get from that as opposed to regular trance. in fact one of the first was bamboo forest - toast, that i got ironically from this site, given the rare attention to psy / goa trance and the almost pervasive failure to acknowledge the genre.
not that i really mind, far from it in fact, just that once i got my head around the difference and where to go for these tunes, the kind of culture that permeates the scene where i listen and partake of the enjoyment of this music, well i kind of cant believe it took me as long as it did to find it
i just love my psy trance. yes there are a few good recommendations above, but for sure it is jsut the tip of the iceberg...
for a general insight try looking at saikosounds.com or psyshop.com pr perhaps psyreviews.com i frequently find much of my appetite satisfied here.
its funny cos i am fairly certain that (even if you dont know about it yet) you are either are or are not into it.
i am also into outdoor parties that feature psy music, called doofs here in aust. this culture is also amazingly different to that you would find at a 'rave' though there are of course shared elements. typically though hard to get into the circuit of music and doofs, not through exclusion, but through a general paucity of people who are interested or know about it, the culture is one of acceptance, tolerance and more so spirituality (of what ever description). you may think that the same applies to rave / dance culture and i am sure that i would agree with you, but it is in a far different kind of way and well it is very difficult to actually compare them. if you like it is the neo hippy life, whereas rave is far more technophile and de personalized. jsut a couple of flippant comparisons, excuse me.
still i encourage you as much i can but principally because i just love and in fact live for this culture. it is very close to my heart.
i am happy to direct any further towards more information, but this reply is long enough already. with the selections listed above you will begin the journey that i will be taking for many years to come and has given me infinite pleasure so far. ( i now have cd decks and apart from psy and idm, not much else get played, certainly not house or ev en regular trance nowdays, just cos thats where my interests are)
jc.
boom shankar
well i
