fruity loops is easy to learn but pretty powerful once you learn it.
reason is incredibly powerful but a bit more tricky to learn. i think PvD and Markus Schultz both use reason for their productions as do many top producers.

I though the pros used Pro-Tools

i read some interview a while ago and pvd said he used to use logic but right now he is using reason (may have changed again). i asked markus in the global dj broadcast chatroom last sunday and he told me he uses reason.

Fruityloops is good for beginners. It's easy to pick up. If you're just starting out try that one.

Once you're confident and you want a little more freedom and you're willing to spend some time to really explore your tools then go for Reason. A lot of the big names in Trance produce songs in their bedroom using Reason.

Do the producers mentioned above use exclusively Reason for production or do they use hardware synths too?

I would say they probably use hardsynths and use reason mostly as a sequencer, and maybe some limited effect use?
