What other mixers should I look at before buying a VMX-300?

Well I gues the title says it all.

I really need a new mixer. I'm at the point where I want to make cds for friends and stuff and the mixer I have now I got for 50$. It humms like mad.

Anyways Ive been doing my reaserch and it looks like the Behringer vmx 300 is a quality mixer that has just what I need. But before I jump into this I was just wondering if you guys can recomend any other mixers. I'm still cintimplating of getting the vmx-700 but I only have 2 tables right now so it would be kind of usless until I got some cd decks. I mean it would be kind of hurting to have 2 empty channels on it but the effects would be cool.

Any suggestions or opinions from you guys? Any complaints about the behringer vmx-300?

Thanks for your time!

~Seany G

Well I have the VMX-300 and I have no complaints at all. Bought it in X-mas 2002. It does have 3 channels so even if you buy a 3rd deck you can use it, and has phono/line switches so you can buy a 4th and switch it...
As for effects I recommend an effects processor, but that's just me!
I can assure you though that you won't get wrong with this mixer

Heh, I'll have to retype my post (in shorter form) due to internet unreliability. :/

I own a VMX-300 (for about a year now) and can say that for the money, this is a great board.

That said, there are some complaints I do have:

1. Channel 1 crackles from time to time, rendering it essentially unusable.
2. The fader for channel 2 is getting stiff -- although it works fine from a sonic standpoint, I can imagine that eventually this stifness will degrade to further mechanical problems with this particular channel.
3. I might be hearing things, but there seems to be a slight, ever so slight decrease in volume on channel 3 from time to time.

However, the knobs are great and I have no gripes with them. The volume levels for each channel are a blessing and really help when sound matching.

To conclude, for the money, this is a great board. That being said, if you really want something top-of-the-line (that will be very reliable and last you a long time), go for something like Allen & Heath Xone 32 or Vestax PCV-275 or Pioneer DJM-500/600. They may be more expensive, but they are worth it.

In the end, just make sure you research your decision so that you are confident about it when you make it (and are comfortable when you open up your wallet).

Good luck!

I have a Denon DX400 mixer, and I love it. I bought it for around $330 and it does everything I could possibly want it to do.
