no velvet slipmats!!! They collect dust like crazy and after awhile the dust will settle into the grooves..next thing you know you're record sounds like pure crap!! Vandit slipmats work really really good!!! Make sure to buy soft mats, and not these cardboard slipmaths wrapped in cheap cloth that come with the techs . Lastly, no rubber either...WORST THING YOU CAN DO, can't tell you how many people i've seen trying to spin with rubber mats.

So to sum it all up...soft and slippery are the best. I know stanton has some good ones but I know for a fact vandit mats work really damn well!!!

I use standard black technics, they seem to be ok. Mind u haven't tried any others so wouldn't have anything to judge em against

The thinner the better! This is one of the two most important things that you can remember about slipmats. The other is that the less artwork the better. That artwork is hard and can scratch your records.

if you have the wax paper that came with the technics m3d mk5.. you can put it between the slipmat and rubber pad... it doesnt make any difference if you have the pad on or off if you have the wax papper between them.. I personally have the rubber pad to even it up with my stylus.

You dont put the wax between the rubber pad and slipmat. Its one or the other. And it will be slicker and lighter without the rubber mat.
The rubber pd would be for basic playback, no mixing or cueing.
Felt slipmat for mixing and cueing.
Ive used a couple different brands, and I have not noticed a difference. Only time if noticed a difference is when I started using the wax that comes with the technics slipmats, it seemed to be a bit slipper.
I've never heard of slipmats scracthing your records. I dont believe it, unless their are studies that prove it, which I doubt (but i can be wrong).
The main difference that ive seen with certain slipmats, is that certain ones are heavier, while some are lighter and slipper. You can also make custom ones, as many turntablist do. Some are made for scracthing, since you need nice slick ones for that type of application.
As far as the custom ones, my causin had used two pieces of thin wax type paper on each tt, with a very thin felt (or something else) material on top of the wax, as the slipmat.
The reason for using two wax papers instead of one is to make it xtra slippery, without adding extra weight. Same goes with the thin felt type material. Those records really slide on his decks, but that is his preference, because he does a lot of cueing and scratching.

Anyone know where I can get custom slipmats made that don't require me to make a bulk purchase? Everywhere I have looked so far requires me to buy atleast 30 pairs etc.

I just want 2 pair.
