Moving data from desktop to laptop

im off with my laptop in a few days for school
but id like to somehow take all my music with me thats on my
desktop currently. i was thinking about burning them on to cd's
in mp3 formats but that would still take a lot of time & effort,
which i dont have atm,

is there a way to move all the goods in a more convenient way?

ps: i only have 3 days or so...

thanks,

- e

you can link your pc to the laptop in a number of ways, serial nul modem cable, parallel transfer cable (this is expensive), usb transfer cable (expensive again), cros over ethernet cable (depends on if you can install a pci ethernet card to ur pc and ur laptop has a etherner port)

what laptop is it? and how much can you afford to spend on cables etc?

wise words. Chances are it's a fairly new laptop? Usually network cards come as standard with latops, if not you'll have to invest in a pmcia (?) card, which dont come cheap. The crossover cable you'll need is about a tenner, either that or make one (loads of guides online). Networking them is the most cost efficient and speed efficient way of transfering files. If your PC doesn't have a NIC, they, again are about a tenner. Make sure you get a CROSSOVER cable, not a patch / straight through.

Actually - burning them on cd would be the cheapest way looking back at what I've said, as they only cost about 30p each that'd be the best (although time consuming) way.

Good luck either way

burning to cd doesnt seem like all that much effort

basically, unless both comps have a network card (i'm pretty sure the laptop will have), burning to cdr is much easier than establishing direct cable connections with null modem etc especially if the desktop doesn't have the Same OS (which is the case with me)
