Actually, the Sony MDR-V6 / MDR-7506 are very good for other things besides DJ phones -- I would heartily recomment them for portable use.
I myself use a pair of 7506's when travelling, and they are wonderful. Some benefits of these cans as portables:
1. They are quite small.
2. They are very, very durable. This is especially important when used as a portable.
3. The sound is excellent for listening; in fact I would say they are better for casual listening and enjoyment rather than studio monitors / DJ monitors. This is because they are coloured, with excellent bass and slightly pronounced highs. They are very clear and make trance (or any electronica, in fact) sound very fun!
4. They are easily driven by portable walkmans etc. This is a very important point that you shouldn't overlook. I don't personally know the Sennheiser headphones you listed in your original post, but make sure they don't need to be amped. If they do, they're quite useless as portables (unless you want to carry a headphone amp around).
5. They have a low profile and won't make your head look like an alien's, which many other phones tend to do (like Sennheiser HD-280).
Hope this helps. If you don't have a credit card, it might be a problem if you want to get a specific pair of headphones -- usually the best place to get them is online.
Good luck!

It's basically a "light" version of the 7506. Same cups, headband is in plastic instead of alu.
This is the 7506

Thanks for clearing that up, Thy.
These are NOT the same as the Sony MDR-V600, which are considered much, much worse. The V6/7506 are an old model from almost twenty years ago when Sony still cared for quality etc.
The "new" MDR-VXXXDJ line is of very poor quality, in terms of construction, design, and sound.
You can find the V6 online for about $50-60 USD, which is pretty inexpensive I'd say! The MDR-7506 is exactly the same as the V6 except for the gold plated connector -- however that is not worth spending $40 more on (I do believe they go for around $90-100 USD, correct me if I'm wrong). The reason they are higher priced is because Sony was marketing them as "professional studio monitors."
However, after doing research I've found they're the same as the V6. The only reason I had to get a MDR-7506 was because I found one at a decent price locally, and it would have been slightly more expensive to order a V6 from the States and have it shipped to Canada (and have customs charges on it, etc.)
