Shame / Disagreement My Printer!

ffs this is driving me insane. For some reason i cant install my printer. Its an old crap Lexmark Z25 that i got for free ages ago. I plug the USB in, insert the disc, and the wizard sets it up all fine and dandy. Then it goes on to install the software, and succesfully does this to. But then for some reason when i go to print, it says the computer cant communicate with the printer. So i check the see if the drivers are out of date and there not. I check to see if maybe i forgot to uninstall the previous incase the lexmark one isnt the default; but agian no joy. I make sure the USB is actually active and it is.. So next i decide to try and diff USB slot since my comp has 6 of them. But still i get the same problem. Starting to get pissed off now i try a different USB cable on the offchance the other cable was knackered. Still, same error. As a very last resort i try installing the same printer on my second computer. Still.. same error I dont understand, can anyone see if im missing something completely stupid, coz this is faking pathetic.. grrrrr. Pls Help!

Mike

has it got old stylie paralell? try that, if it's recognising the printer in device manager but not printing I'd prolly go as far to say as it's fucked.

buy a new one, they're bout £30, infact, instead of buying cartridges, just get a new printer, they come free with cart's (although half filled) neways

lol since when have you been able to dissable usb in the bios? thought there was just legacy usb support that you could alter? (which is used when trying to use a usb keyboard when using dos before windows is installed)

- er, mike - only thing I can suggest is that you've installed the wrong drivers? when you plug it in does it add it'self to the device manager list? is this printer the all in one? - ie scanner etc? they often have to install an 'enumerator' type thing (yeh, i know that's for softmodems but couldn't think of the word) DOTMATRIX print support or something - is there anything like that in "other devices?"

I fink the printer is shagged tbh, it's hard to install a printer wrong, unless you're a fuckwitt.

29quid i fink

www.pcworld.co.uk

do a search for LEXMARK Z601

(and if pcworld sell them at that price, fink how cheap they are elsewhere - it mite be an idea to check out tesco, they have some cheap electrical goods)

one question do you have anything else connected to the usb that came with your motherboard for example a mouse, keyboard, etc because some old motherboards and new they don't support 2 devices connected to the board don't ask me why that is just the way they are so if your motherboard has two usb connections and you are using one already and you try to connect the printer it won't recognice the device, try connecting only the printer to the usb alone and see if it will work.

Thx for the replies. I ended up going to my staples and found a cheap hp printer for £23 plus my friends 10% discount, so in the end it totalled approx £21.. catridges are almost the same price, and since u get a free cartridge with the printer each time anyway u may as well just buy a new printer each time u run out of ink Anyway it works fine, and after trying the old printer on another 2 computers other than my own 2, i no for sure that its the printer itself that must be fucked and not my own computer. cool!
