Financial Aid- Any tips for getting the most money?

Hi guys,

I am going back to school, yay for me. I am going to attend a career college which is $19,000. The financial aid lady said "Financial aid grants will not pay for the whole school," I would also have to apply for loans. Is there anything I can do to get the most financial aid available? Also, any of you have student loans, if so what is your interest rate? Are there any websites which offer the best interest rate for student loans?

Thanks,
Emil

Im not to sure about the USA policy on student loans and grants , but in the uk if your under a certain age i think is 28, then you can apply for a student loan upto £20k, well good luck.

This ain't about ur little problem.. but since ur gonna be at school.. i suggest you get casual employment for your loans... since you don't want the interest killing you !

N you will need cash.. unless you plan to live in college and eat cafeteria food for the duration of ur stay... lol

and most importantly.. for trance cd's that will be released while ur @ college.. heheh

Did you put in the application for financial aid (FAFSA) yet? To get the most "free" money you need to send it in for the next year as soon as possible after the acceptance date...which is like March 1st or something.

As far as getting the best interest rate on loans, the federal student loans will get you preety much the best rate any time and they actually can go down (mine did like 3 points last year) but are locked at a maximum rate.

One thing you may not be aware of (though I don't know how old you are) if you are 23 or older you are allowed to remove your parent's income from the FAFSA which in most cases means you will get a better aid package because you make less money.

The most important thing is getting the application done first thing because grants and scholarships are all given out on a first come first serve basis.

Good Luck,

MrS

www.fastweb.com

i find a lot of websites about financial aid are abandoned and out of date. FastWeb is the only place i look at for financial aid including grants, financial aid and scholarships.
also squirrel is right about applying for FAFSA

if you want the most money be something other than white, a woman, disabled, preferably from another country and on welfare.

Thanks for the help. Some points: I am 25, my income last year was like $1,500. Also, I am attending a career school, not a traditional college. So the guy said I can still apply for financial aid, when I go for my enrollment day, they said I will be told the total amount of grants I am getting. I guess they just plug some numbers into the computer. The school starts Sept 18, it's a 14 month program that will cost $19,000.

Thanks again,
Emil
