why dont we hear more oldies in sets?

c'mon now, why dont any of the big name djs play of their first class older tunes. could you imagine pvd throwing for an angel into a set or tiesto throwing sparkles into one of his. or ferry throwing out of the blue or an older gouryella tune like tenshi. why. i want answers. the crowd would go absolutely ape shit.

sasha occasionally spins xpander (or remixes/bootlegs of it) in some of his sets

but i agree..i'd rather hear something amazing but old as opposed to new but crap

The big DJs do play old stuff sometimes, usually when they're playing to a crowd they think is less knowledgeable when it comes to trance, or maybe a crowd that doesn't get to see the big boys every week. Myself, I think that unless the express purpose of a show is to showcase new material (eg, ASOT) then there's nothing wrong with using old tracks as an integral part of a set. Moderation is key; if you play all old stuff people might wonder if you ever buy any records () but throwing in a classic when a crowd least expects it can really get people excited.

cuz they get slagged for playing too many old tunes.

Yes it is great that they drop classics but you want to go hear a deejay play NEW TUNES. Some deejays have lost this art, like sasha who used to play white labels but now plays recycled old crap. Certain deejays like darren emerson, he carries 2 boxes to gigs...one is new stuff...the other is old classics.

When internationals tour Australia you can be sure a few classics will be played. We only get to see the internationals once a year so its always great when a few classics are played.

When djs are touring countries that they dont visit very often, i think they are expected to play a few crowd favourites.

djs should play more older tracks... bring back the good old tracks i never had the chance to hear live...

my philosophy...

if you don't look back on where you have been you definitely won't know where you are going!!

big DJ's have the most access to the newest of the new tracks.

so they might as well play them. they get all the steiff months before it comes out, so htey might as well play it....

Then again,if you dwell on the past for too long you're not going anywhere anytime soon. I love hearing some classics just as much as you do,but I think they are played enough already. When I go to see a dj,I want to hear new stuff first. You'll get classics sooner or later anyway.
