Me and one of my mates always get weird looks cos we dance like nutters. I don't care though, it makes it so much more fun.

It's all about the music, I hate it, when people start judging others by the way they dance.
If you dance, enjoy your music, but look like a 3 legged crab, hopping up and down with a carrot stuck up your arse, who cares !
People dance very differently, and I've found that they dance differently all over the world.
Having been to clubs in Israel & the US (Florida to be exact) as well as here at home in South Africa, it amazes me, how people dance totally differently, even though it's the same music.
Even in South Africa, there are different styles, if you're dancing at the coast or if you're inland, it weird, same music, just different ways of reacting to it.
You adadpt your style to what you like, it may or may not look good - who knows, everyone's a critic.

Just like Widget (and Carl Cox, Sven Väth & dozens of others said): IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC. Personally I couldn't care less how someone dances. I classify trance as hypnotic "feel good" music and when I dance I do it because I want to express the good vibes I'm getting. There is no choreography, fancy prethought moves (like in Madonna's Vogue etc heh heh), no code, no restrictions. When I feel I'm "in the beat" my good feeling gets even better, but like most people, I dance only for myself, not to show off or impress others. In other words, I don't give a damn what some highfly wannabe-super-cool raver might think.
Of course I watch others as they dance when I'm chilling out, but that's mainly because it's nice to see when someone is having a really good time, enjoying the beats etc. it somehow spices things up
However, there are couple of things I dislike;
1. flailing - really aggressive hand motions so that you basically hit everyone around you. That pisses me off and immediately makes me think that the person is seriously intoxicated who knows nothing about the club culture. Of course you can (and should too) move your hands but keep it under control so that you don't need an area of 4 square meters as the "minimum safe distance"
2. stumbling around/falling on other persons/other downright STUPID maneuvers
3. dancing with a beer mug or equivalent which most probably is spilled on someone else or falls on the floor. ECK! Another sign of a clueless person.
4. idiots who try to rub themselves against my gf, otherwise harrass or pull stunts which belong to some "I seek a partner"-restaurant rather than a rave party. Get a life, people are there for the music, not to get laid (usually :P).
Nevertheless, 99% of the people here can "behave" and that's one of the top reasons I really like going to clubs/raves (I hate those drunken aggressive morons). Just smile, dance and have a good time!
peace - love - unity - respect
read it, understand it, live it, share it

mindbender: you said it well... It's all about the music, except one time, we got good laughs at friend's place...but that's another story

Who give's a rats ass what other think of you...chances are you will never see them again. I change the way i dance at a club and at a rave. At a club the music is usually some sort of house music which first off doesn't get me going as much and second at a club there usually isn't enough room to kickstep and go nut on the dancefloor. I say listen to the music and your body will flow to it!
