Ok so some people (not on this board) were writing about a party (that featured jon the dentist btw) and how some people were retarted for dancing like clubbers.. I'm sorry I don't dance like most "ravers" out there.. I dun even dress like most ravers, still I dun dare wear tight jeans for my own good when I go to these parties, or else I'll be given dirty looks the whole night!!! WTF is the matter with this, if you guys also feel that way would u please care to explain why people can't dance how they feel!! I dunno if the same situation exists in europe or other cities (I'm talking about toronto) but everyone is apparently expected to liquid or do something that includes kickstepping) I may dance like a "clubber" but it shouldn't be about the dancing, it should be appreciating the music!!
err.. I hope some of you tranceaddicts understand what I'm trying to say and tell me what u think...

latez..

I hear ya. when i go to a rave or a party, i just let it go and if people don't like it, they can suck it! i don't look at other people funny when they dance. but, usually, the people i'm around are the same as me, they just don't care and they don't make fun of me because i can't dance.

It's all about the music, I hate it, when people start judging others by the way they dance.

If you dance, enjoy your music, but look like a 3 legged crab, hopping up and down with a carrot stuck up your arse, who cares !

People dance very differently, and I've found that they dance differently all over the world.

Having been to clubs in Israel & the US (Florida to be exact) as well as here at home in South Africa, it amazes me, how people dance totally differently, even though it's the same music.

Even in South Africa, there are different styles, if you're dancing at the coast or if you're inland, it weird, same music, just different ways of reacting to it.

You adadpt your style to what you like, it may or may not look good - who knows, everyone's a critic.

The thing is the way I dance is totally acceptable at a club but at a rave I would be classified a bimbo.. I dun dance like bimbo (usually!) but why must there be such a big barrier between "clubbers" and "ravers"???

latez...

Well i just go witht he beat Who cares what the fuck people think.... I like CLubs better then Raves...i went to a rave on NYE...TOm wax was there...and Raver just piss me off at times...cuz most of them only care about drugs..and to them every song sounds the fucking same to them....i love to be in a crowd where people dance to the music they like and really show it when they play songs they like.. and since the raves here in Vegas is only about the Drugs...ill stick with the Clubs..which get better djs here anyway!!.... and when it comes to dressing up... just dress up if you think you look pimp then all the better !!... my priorities....N.1 is always the MUSIC!!!! then the girls!! loL!! everything else comes after!

Cool

Just like Widget (and Carl Cox, Sven Väth & dozens of others said): IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC. Personally I couldn't care less how someone dances. I classify trance as hypnotic "feel good" music and when I dance I do it because I want to express the good vibes I'm getting. There is no choreography, fancy prethought moves (like in Madonna's Vogue etc heh heh), no code, no restrictions. When I feel I'm "in the beat" my good feeling gets even better, but like most people, I dance only for myself, not to show off or impress others. In other words, I don't give a damn what some highfly wannabe-super-cool raver might think.

Of course I watch others as they dance when I'm chilling out, but that's mainly because it's nice to see when someone is having a really good time, enjoying the beats etc. it somehow spices things up

However, there are couple of things I dislike;
1. flailing - really aggressive hand motions so that you basically hit everyone around you. That pisses me off and immediately makes me think that the person is seriously intoxicated who knows nothing about the club culture. Of course you can (and should too) move your hands but keep it under control so that you don't need an area of 4 square meters as the "minimum safe distance"

2. stumbling around/falling on other persons/other downright STUPID maneuvers

3. dancing with a beer mug or equivalent which most probably is spilled on someone else or falls on the floor. ECK! Another sign of a clueless person.

4. idiots who try to rub themselves against my gf, otherwise harrass or pull stunts which belong to some "I seek a partner"-restaurant rather than a rave party. Get a life, people are there for the music, not to get laid (usually :P).

Nevertheless, 99% of the people here can "behave" and that's one of the top reasons I really like going to clubs/raves (I hate those drunken aggressive morons). Just smile, dance and have a good time!

peace - love - unity - respect

read it, understand it, live it, share it

See the flailing arms thing that mindbender mentioned, i have to admit, that where i come from in N. Ireland the club culture is very much split. We have a few clubs in my area, and the gang of friends i go out with all appreciate the music, and we go mad when big DJ's come to our town. I live in OMagh and what you have to understand is that basically, in comparison with where most of you reading this live, i live in the country. Therefore we have the FARMERS coming to the clubs who rate a good night out as hown many fights they start, and they have no clue whatsoever whether it was Paul van Dyk or Paul from down the road DJ'ing. Therefore we have to put up with alot of " push each other around on the dancefloor into other people - its a good laugh " mantality. I think if you appreciate the music and are a true fan it dosen't matter what way you dance.

DAmn that has to be my longest post yet !

Who give's a rats ass what other think of you...chances are you will never see them again. I change the way i dance at a club and at a rave. At a club the music is usually some sort of house music which first off doesn't get me going as much and second at a club there usually isn't enough room to kickstep and go nut on the dancefloor. I say listen to the music and your body will flow to it!

People usually assume that if you dance good you must have a lot of (rave) experience -> you have been partying longer -> you are usually not as clueless as some kid who just went to the first party and decided to eat some "enhancements" ... or some drunken-ass barhopper / clubber for whom a rave is just a meatmarket. And usually the first impression holds when you talk to that person (there are always exceptions though !). And also people who are shitty dancers usually don't have the coordination to avoid slamming into people - which is extremely annoying, especially when you catch a groove that will keep you going for a long time and some retard dances right into you. I have seen kids who can go off like there's no tomorrow and still not hit anybody on a packed dancefloor. Also bad dancers aren't as nice and interesting to watch as good ones ... there is nothing that can motivate you to get out on the floor like somebody ripping it up to an awesome track ... or get you off the floor like some retard flailing around totally out of sync with the music.

If you are having fun dancing, more power to you, but PLEASE do consider that people around you might be annoyed by some of the things you do ...

peace
