Different recording source (studio vs line out of decks), often different version of the song (acetate), effects via the mixer (flange, reverb, etc), recording level (volume) and sometimes audience intervention... that's all I can think of now...

I know what you mean...Sometimes the live set tracks have so much more atmosphere, then you get the vinly or CD, and it just doesn't sound quite as good!

sometimes the pitch is up, and because the previous song in the mix ygot you into a certain mood, a mix is like a voyage or something, it takes you somewhere.

Yeah but that's the thing why it's so GREAT to be at a live SHOW...

I'll pick a number:
A few weeks ago Piet Bervoets was playing Delerium - Innocente (DJ Tiësto remix) and it sounds so great 100 times better than home and 10 times better than Tiësto's set at Wildlife. But that's what I'm saying and who am I

Yeah I would blame it on the pitch...meaning it might be sped up or slowed down quiet a but from the one your used to.

yea i know two examples of this... the Joy Kitikonti - Energizer (psicho mix) sounds different with different breakdowns and swirly sequences from the single to the track in Mauro Picotto's TE2001 set... and also, when i first bought GateCrasher: Disco-Tech i lovvveeeddd Pulser - Cloudwalking was the best song (i still do) and when i heard it in Magik6 and a couple of tiesto/avb sets it's so much more bassy and harder hitting...

very annoying

It's called beat matching and that's why the pitch is either high or low, and of course sounds different!!! It's a Live Set (Live Mix) for pete's sake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your right it is stupid.
