I do support activisim, I am a member of greenpeace, I am also a registered volunteer of greenpeace. I believe that are duty as a human being is to use this earth as needed, not to destroy it!

I burn Jet Fuel for a living.

I support evironmental policy, and regulation. I support the exploration of new technology, and the use of available resources already present. I support human evolution...and the jobs it uses/creates.

I DO NOT support Activism...It's often Extreme, a Nuisance, disrupts the economy, and in several cases promote criminal acts. Spend the time you would protest, by working in a soup kitchen helping those who need it. Don't sit in a tree and wait for Darwins theory to have prove itself upon you. Be practical...not radical. (Ex: Time had a great article on appropriate Forest management...it's a fine line between a healthy forest, and an OVERgrown forest...and we know what happens to over grown...overprotected forests...they burn, they burn hot and out of control...and we can't stop them)


Be Earth Smart...recycle, re-use, plant trees, and manage resources appropriately.
Don't be Earth Stupid....Greenpeace..."The face of Devolution."
If you want to be a little more practical...look at places like, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, or the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation...A little more conservative, and looking out for both the people and the item they serve to protect....practical over radical.

Sorry if I offend anyone, and I am very aware it's a general sterotype on a large group...but bad apples make everyone look bad...but I'm from Montana...where everyone relies on the use of resources for work, food, and shelter...essentially everything needed to live...and I've seen first hand what outsider radical enviro groups try and do...and it's simply pathetic. It's not even realistic...it's frustrating sometimes...those poor lost souls....*sigh*

I am all for good environmental friendly practices and I do my best to take that into account in my daily life. I recycle what I can, try to use recycled products, and most of all:

I DON'T DRIVE A FUCKING SUV THAT GETS 7 MILES A GALLON!!!!

I think that activism is not, in itself, a bad thing. (as our friend from the Montana Militia so stated) But I do agree that zealots do cause more problems than they solve.

In my own way I am an activist.
I believe, and state on an almost daily basis, that automakers should be building fuel efficient vehicles. The internal combustion engine is one of the most inefficient methods of energy transfer around. But, sadly, the auto makers convinced congress that "making more efficient cars will cost jobs". I personally don't understand that logic since they will be making the same number of cars as before, which may even require slightly more skilled laborers to produce (though I doubt it) so why will they lose jobs?

The biggest help I will be able to give to the environment is when I can afford to get rid of my little Nissan picukp (inherited and thus free) and get a nice fuel efficient Jetta TDI.

When you make new laws for environmental policy someone has to be "active" to do so. When someone develops new technology for benefit of human race thats being "active". When you volunteer at a soup kitchen thats being "active". When you have respect for the environment and manage it properly thats being "active". All of these are "Activism".

Shure, I don't support going into the forest and building huge tree forts and saying that im never coming out because your gonna destroy it. That is a part of EXTREEM activism, that is a waste of time and it basically doesn't get anything done. You have to think big and go straight through the governing system to do things right. That might mean sometimes have rallies or marches for the environment. Greenpeace is just an organization that helps get things sorted out the right way.

Oh and MrSquirrel, Jetta Tdi is a diesel and diesel is a very inefficient fuel. The fuel is cheaper but because it is not as refined as gas it basically puts out alot more bad stuff. A Jetta Tdi is equivalent to a regular Jetta or less when talking about emissions.

I do think about the earth and the environment on my daily life, and do my best to help with the little grain that I may support.

I did invest in a car thats economic, and yet fuel friendly, thinking on buying the new Honda Hybrid as soon as I can.

Id like to be in the greenpeace alliance.

I agre that factories need to get their greed from their ass and think for the better of upcoming generations and do the best they can, although the United States as a whole represents as a "shame" in terms of helping out ( bush getting out the Kyoto treaty - plus, being the biggest pollutant in the world). Many countries in Europe and Asia ( Japan ) are doing some effort on helping out with this.

Anyways, I do think about the earth, and as a result from everything that we are doing and have done ( WE Humans ).. now we are experiencing the Global Warming phenomenon, and the Ozone Layer becoming bigger and bigger every year.. theres a whole chain of events from everything that we are doing.. sucks.

Its cool you think about using a fuel efficient car. Hybrid would be a great choice fo cutting down on emissions. The Hydrogen car is the best fuel source there is for a vehicle, it has no bad emissions at all. Just think of the smog in L.A. or a place like that, what if one day everyone drove a hydrogen car, smog basically all gone. The Fuel companies are standing in the way of production though. They feel that they will be out of business, so they just continue to promote this earth to commit to distruction.

Sure a Hydrogen powered vehicle has no "bad" emissions, but there are other concerns with it.

Possible Ozone depletion(link) is one. Another is the method of obtaining the hydrogen. Electrolysis is a good process but it requires electricity and in order to create enough hydrogen to be useful for vehicles, the power must come from regular commercial power plants. That is a problem because a large portion of US power plants burn coal which is both an inefficient and highly polluting fuel. There are also methods which "crack" the hydrogen molecules out of fossil fuel hydrocarbons in a refining process similar to the refining of oil. These processes create nearly as much pollution as the systems they are meant to replace.

I am not saying that using hydrogen in the future is a bad idea, but we all must be aware that there is a downside.

Nah actually Texas an't as bad as many people believe... after all Texas refines the Gas for about half of the US, drive in their SUVs and still have cleaner air then California.

I think the Texans take a very practical approach to the environment, and obviously they could be taking more steps (as I'm sure we all could) but so far they are doing quiet wonderous. There hasn't been any big enviro disputes here yet...

That is an interesting link MrSquirrel. I have not read anything like that before about hydrogen. That changes my thoughts about hydrogen alittle. It is a prediction and could be prevented though.

Alittle on the stereotype of texans: Texans do like their fossil fuels, like to hunt just about anything, and is a major consumer of resources. Don't say "so far Texas is doing quiet wonderous" I don't want to speak about everyone in texas, they might be prosperous, but texas is no wonder in promoting the environment. Esp. when they put a leader in the white house who thinks thinning the forrests is a good idea.
