Just curious as to how many of you are actually using Traktor to makeup some mixes of your own? It is no replacement for TT's, but if you're using Traktor I'm assuming like myself, you too cannot afford a set of tables along with the vinyl and associated stuff's. I find it somewhat akward, because of the fact it's on a computer and you have to use a mouse and keyboard. I get the impression it would be like trying to DJ with one hand. Limited in your abilities to do two things at once and quickly.

So who else uses it, what do you think of it? How successful have you been at actually mixing something up and recording it? (and the big point; actually being somewhat happy with your mix)

yes i don't have the $$$ to get the real shit. even if i did i wouldn't have room for it either in my house. so i have to use traktor and i must say i have made quite a number of mixes that i have been very satisfied with. although they haven't been perfect throughout the entire mix, but for the most part, like 95% of the time, its pretty decent sounding and more or less smooth transitions from track to track.

btw i use the keyboard to help me so its not really just "one handed" mixing. its not all that hard and with practice the mixes are pretty decent. having said all that, mixing with the technics and expensive mixers are definitely much better and much more fun of course

here's a lil sample of my mixing with traktor

ok, the obvious question: what's the first track you used in your mix? I really like it. And the mix is ok, too.

I use traktor as a third TT, for those tracks I couldn't get on vinyl yet.

thanks hm...i'm quite surprised i thought everyone knows about this track already. its aeon - mastepiece of emotion followed by drax & scott mac - sublime (darkstar remix). traktor is nice program if you know how to use the features efficiently. i have to do that cuz well i can't afford to get all the real shit..nonetheless i'm pretty satisfied with my stuff thats all that matters.

It's Aeon? I had this track since it was new but didn't like it when I first listened to it and then kind of forgot about it.
Sounds much better at 32k/bps

I use traktor to make cds for my car and shit when i cant be arsed spinnin the 1210's,and i make some shit hot mixes.Ive got 2 ive made today already, heres the tracklistings-
Disc 1:
Dj tiesto:Urban train
Cj stone:Shining star
System f:Exhale (Original)
Jupiter prime:Gate to heaven
Dumonde:Never look back
Binary finary:2000 (Dumonde remix)
Dumonde:See the light (Picotto mix)

The mix from this track to the next is sheer sex,it seperates the power trance from the emotional stuff with a sad depressing chilling female vocal, then the full 10 and a half minute version of gouryella slams in,just like on picottos lizard man cd,when he done it with sparkles.

Gouryella:Gouryella (Full original cut)
Fire and ice:Neverending melody
Gouryella:Walhalla
Firestar:G-lide (Prototype mix)
Firestar:Firestars custom made tenshi intro
Gouryella:Tenshi (Transa remix)

The other cd:

Transa:Astro dawn
Timo maser schieber (Rapid eye remix)
Mauro picotto:Komodo (Tea mix)
Dj tiesto:Sparkles (Airscape remix)
Dj tiesto sparkles (Transa remix)
Binary finary:1999 (Gouryella remix)
Vengaboys:Chekka bow wow (Transa remix)
Blank and jonesj culture (Club mix)
Vengaboys:Kiss (Airscape remix)
Blank and jones:Beyond time (Club mix)
Ian van dahl:Castles (Wippenberg remix)

Traktor is good fun,but not as good as decks, and you can really only be as good as your computer will allow you.And i wouldnt recommend using the automatic beatmatching,do it the proper way and dont cheat!

Ah but it's handy, for someone who's never beatmatched before. I can wip up my own CD's and have them sound decent without learning how to beatmatch. I practise at it without the auto sync so I can at some point not use it. But I want CD's now, not a month from now when I may actually be able to do with without the auto sync. My latest one I made yesterday is pretty good IMO for my tastes.

DJ Tiesto - Urban Train
Katan - Fancy Fair
Apollo - Charisma
Rank 1 - Such Is Life (Deep Dub Mix)
Joy Kitikonti - Joyenergiser (Phisical Mix)
Clint Fabian & DJ R Kay - Horizon (Panorama)
Coast 2 Coast - Home
The Quest - C Sharp
Paul Van Dyk - For An Angel
Schiller - Das Glockenspiel (Humate Mix)
Push - Universal Nation (Dumonde Mix)

Some older tracks yes, but alas, all stuff I happen to want to listen to while driving my car! Think it sounds pretty good for someone who's been at it a couple weeks.

I say one handed because you can't adjust the EQ/Filter on both decks at the same time like you could with two hands on a mixer. You could use your keyboard for one and the mouse for the other yes, but akward? Quite!

ya very true. so often i always complain about not having it right in front of me, the knobs and faders, where i can just quickly use my hands to adjust to the mix. using your hands are definitely more precise as well as being a lot quicker.

Hi... my name is Trypsin... and I've been a Traktor addict for some time now...

But yes, I use it because I don't have money for TT & vinyl - school, unfortunately, has gotten the better of my bank account.

In my experience I haven't had any troubles with Traktor at all - as long as your mp3s are high enough quality (160+) it sounds (to me) as good as vinyl, and mixing is 100% your own skill with it, so you can make your mixes sound as good as you like. Oh, and you don't have to worry about keeping your vinyl clean and scratch free. And you don't have to carry a case of vinyl around with you. And... and... and...

I've found that the combination of keyboard and mouse isn't terribly limiting, actually, you just have to get used to the layout of the keys and all. But yes, getting a really smooth and slow transition on a knob using just the keys on your keyboard can be a bit difficult.

But that's just my $0.02.
