You should be thankful that you get to listen to such great classics in the parties you go to.
Here every DJ spins Hip-Hop and the closest thing to Trance youll hear is Dee Dee and Lasgo.

Of course thats only in parties for 17 - 19 year olds,

19 year olds can get in better clubs with quality music.
I Wish I'd hear these classics at every party I go to.

I don't mean to sound ungrateful, I know we are lucky to have the club scene we do in Britain and I am fortunate to be able to be part of it. Classics are a good thing in moderation, it just gets me that big name DJs probably receive hundreds of NEW tunes every week, tunes that are going to be unavailable anywhere else for a long time, maybe forever, and tunes that you really can't get access to anywhere else. I feel that the DJs feel more restricted in big name clubs because the crowd expect big tunes to be played all night, especially in Crasher these days. I can't remember the last time I went there when the same old classics didn't get rolled out again. Even PVD has said that he can be more experimental in the U.S as the crowd don't have such preconceived ideas of what they want to hear.

I think the classic helps the growth of trance. It shows how rich and good the history of trance was and how the future will be.

Different crowds, different venues = different sets

I don't mind hearing the odd classic but I rather hear stuff that I have not heard.

I think a Number 1 Dj drops classics to get the crowd going when he notices he's losing grip of the crowd. A sort of stimulance.

Me personally loves classics.

To be honest you should try Wales, on the whole the majority of people aren't open minded musically at all. In most places they dont understand about building it up etc... so it ends up that the DJ's just bang it out all night. This is the reason i've moved upto London for university as i've had enough of the clubs in Wales on the whole. Back to your original point...At the end of the day though the DJ plays for himself and then the crowd, i dont think they feel it necessary to throw in the classics - more often than not they feel that it will enhance the musical atmosphere so thats why theyre included. However if a song is good why shouldn't you play it just because its old? Tom

Its not that I have an issue with it being old, don't get me wrong I love a lot of the old ones, its just that they are in danger of being overplayed - it isn't the odd one anymore, its the same everytime you go out.
Agreed, they do lift the crowd but surely a wicked new tune can lift the crowd too? The old ones start to sound stale if you hear them all the time. Im sure before classics were around, DJs could throw in new well-produced tunes that would have just as good an effect. If classics get hammered the tunes I would once have gone mental to become tunes that are run-of-the-mill. I don't want to get bored of them but how are they special if you hear them everytime?

There was no pretentious looking down their noses at anyone, they were just up for a good time. PVDs set was so much more diverse than most times Ive heard him play in England, and I have followed him for four years. I think its a shame that the crowds in England aren't so open to hearing more diversity in sets. I think that nowadays, smaller more intimate clubs are geting more open minded clubbers than national club brands. Its no wonder all the DJs are heading for the U.S.

I was at Amnesia that night as well.PvD (and Amnesia) were amazing as usual.It was pretty funny watching Jan Johnston dancing and twirling around like a maniac .Only lame thing was them forcing him to stop playing at 7am and then turfing everybody out of the club.I agree with your main point but I do love the occasoinal classic i have to admit.

There isn't anything wrong with classics, i sometimes prefer hearing classics more than newer and fresher songs because classics have a concept of quality which i would never get sick of.

i think his point is, he heard too many classics, 1 or 2 in the whole set is ok, but more than that is too many
