How do i convince my mom to let me get DJ equipment?

Well, i still dont have the money i need for DJing equipment, but my mom still does not know of my yearn to learn DJing. I havnt told her because she dosnt want me blowing away the money that i work hard to earn. Can someone here try to help convince her into letting me be a DJ?

She dosnt know about Redcon '06 yet

Hmm, well, shes trying to get me into boyscouts, even after ive continuasely(spelling?) told her that i hate boyscouts. I just need to explain to her that they dont do what i find of interest, and i was in it before because i actually thought it would be fun. Those years were the worst years of my life!

And she'll probably think that ill stay up too late at night on it. Hopefully(if i can get the support of my grandparents), she'll just be quick about it and say either "I dont know", or something like "Sure, fine with me". Hopefully she wont belive my little brother, who dosnt know *insert another word for manuer right here* about DJing, as he claims that ill be "making alot of noise", even though the DJ kit im getting only comes with headphones ! Its not like im gonna say "Boom boom boom boom boom boom boom!" when im mixing. I dont know where that little kid gets his ideas...

Yea, my brother and his shotgun taught me that DJing isnt the loudest. And yea, i know ill need speakers, but i have untill 2006, so i can save up some money. And who says that i would use them in the house(while other people are in it )?

Hmm... What was said above about making your mum see how much you want to DJ is true. Perhaps also try finding an "analogy(?)" or something to relate it to. I cant think of any atm, I'm sure someone else can =p actually, this is real corny but like crapping onto her about "following your dreams", and give an example etc etc. I'm sure theres a better one to use out there, but just try and make her stop and think about it .. and realise its not a bad idea .. then if she's anything like my mum she'll say some poorass excuse and then you'll know that you have changed her mine but the woman wont admit it!

Well, i just talked to her, and she replyed "Who the hell do you think would hire you as a DJ!?". She obviously dosnt know of the term Bedroom DJ. If she will ever actually listen to me and let me do what i actually want to do, then maybe she would understand. But shes allready forced me into the fucking boyscouts, which i hate. They dont do anything that i like. She claims that i spend all of my time on the computer, and that i was to stop leading such a "boring"(note the quotes) life and actually do something. WHO THE HELL DOES SHE THINK SHE IS SAYING THAT COMPUTERS ARE BORING?!?

Aaaanyway...

Well, im probably going to have to get the support of my grandparents without her knowing it(which will be easy), and then let her listen to what i can do the day that i actually get the equipment.

how old are you? if your going to have your mom buy it for you, just make sure you dont take her with you when you go and buy ur gear. i took my dad once and i was talking to a representative about turntables and my dad jumped in and asked him wat are turntables, i was so embarrassed. but anywayz just tell her you need it because you want to LEARN IT. most likely she will get it for you, as long as you do good in school, then she will get it for u for sure.

p.s. i dont know wats with parents telling their kids they have to do good in school if they wanna get stuff.

yeah true, you should tell your mom that you want to develop your musical identity. she probably thinks its weird cause it isnt like the kids who want to play drums or the flute.
show her how it'll help you not be a couch potato or just play video games 24/7.

or do what i did and try to make an agreement, tell her you will save for half the equipment cost then get your stuff and pay the other half later. then maybe sneak in a "can i get a mixer for my bday/christmas?" if they're close to eachother, then just get your TTs or CDJs, headphones and you off to starting
thats how i got my vestax pmc 170a and i got my cdjs and hf later.

Yea, i should tell her that, but she wouldnt listen at all. She dosnt understand that im different from every other 7th grader. No one else in my school even knows what a DJ really is. Really people, onetime our school spent $100 hiring a DJ, and the guy didnt even fucking mix! All he did was bring along a few cds, stuck them in a cd player, and played them. There was no mixing at all. Honestly, he didnt even have a single turn table or a mixer!

And i would be suprised if my mom even knew what a TT is. But she still dosnt know about the cost.

There word of the day is persistance...

Tell her you want to do it as a hobby, not to become rich and famous, although Im sure that thought ran through your head. You also have to understand your still a young buck, so until you proove to her that you want this, you arent gonna get it. Which means, yes, save up your own cash and start buying stuff - dont just buy anything just to have it. Make sure when you get a turntable that IT IS direct drive and mixer wise, everyone has their preference, if you do a search you will see alot of varying opinions

Ask her this question, what would she prefer you do as a hobby, sell drugs or play music?

BTW, its spelled continuously

tell her about it.

Use your savings to buy a mixer & a cheap cd deck with pitch adjustment. (or an all-in-one package - cd or turntable) Learn your equipment inside out. Practice beatmatching till you're sick of it...practice some more. Learn your equipment inside-out. Save for more (or better) equipment & music. Keep practicing. If the spirit moves you, you'll find a way to keep doing it - and to afford better equipment.
