F*ck the Mideast!!!!

Okay, maybe I'm being a bit harsh. But there are millions of people in Africa dying of famine and AIDS. Millions of children in Asia are sold as sex slaves. Millions in India are condemned to a life of slavery (caste system; untouchables). And on and on and on. Yet the eyes of the world are focused on that piece of crap land (sorry for being so extreme)! The whole Israel-Palestine thing is nothing more than an ethnic fight over land. The Jews currently have the upper hand, but it has not always been that way. In any case, let these people keep killing each other until they learn to grow up and behave. (Harsh words just for emphasis.) The problem we have in society is that we care only about our own backyards. Who will lobby for the rights of children who have lost an arm or a leg due to land mines? Well, unfortunately there are few people of power in the west who come from impoverished nations like Afghanistan. There are few people in the west with influence who can bring AIDS and famine (expected to kill up to 20 million thus year in Africa) to the world's attention. I am sick of people who care only about their own backyards. Sure the problems in the mideast are real and people are dying, but who will fight for the 9 year old Nepalese girl who is sold as a sex slave to western tourists? Has anyone here watched the movie "The Day My God Died"? When will people start taking interest in human lives beyond their own borders? One would think that millions of people are dying in Israel given how the media showcases it every night. Yet the true catastrophe of humanity is elsewhere. But we don't care. Maybe because we don't care about black people or people who look different than us. Maybe seeing white people dying hurts us more than seeing a black or brown or yellow child with flies crawling over his face and parasites burrowed into his skin. Maybe this is why we complain mercilessly when boat people from China land in Canada, yet when boat people from east Europe arrive they get hardly a peep. In any case, if we valued all human lives equally we would easily forget Israel and Palenstine. The true loss is elsewhere. But since few of us have connections to these third world nations few of us will ever care enough to fight for these causes.

i agree with acacongabonga. There's alot more important issues out there that need attention than that lame Israli/palestinian feud. Sure it represent the fight between colonialists and arboriginals still it has been blown out of proportions.

If there was alot less coverage from the media about this issue, both parties would behave differently first thing being less confrontational. (how many times have you seen Palestinians show arms and burn flags provoking Israelis). But then again, no media coverage and there would be no trace of Palestinians in Palestine by now...

In any case, Viber, what does the Canadian education system has to do anything with this subject. This guy writes about his frustrations about the lack of coverage about other important issues in the world today.

P.S. BTW I was reading the newspaper, and someone wrote an open letter saying things along the lines of aconcagua2002. People are fed up I guess of the immense coverage middle east gets on Canadian medias

The Middle East crisis gets a lot of coverage in the media because most of the media is jewish-owned, but thats besides the point.

You can't simply ignore a problem. I agree with you there are many other tragedies occuring all around the world that we chose not to acknowledge. I truly think that is wrong. All should be given equal attention.

I also think that western countries i.e US, Canada, etc should look at problems on their own soil before commiting to problems elsewhere. There are millions of homeless and starving children in our own country (Canada) that no one talks about, you get the point.

i read all the post, no one said there would be no middle east conflict. just that there would be less attention/sympathy, and IMO, less money from the states going to both terrorist sides. Why isnt kasmir situation on the news more? maybe because there are no jews there, thus the corporate mostly jewish owned media wont cover it extensively as they would if it was israel/palestine.

I doubt the amount of coverage is responsive to the amount of media that is jewish owned. There are a ton of NON-jewish media that provide just as much coverage. The reason why there's so much coverage is because what happens to the middle east affects us. If if something happens in Europe it's going to get reported. If it happens in the middle east, it's going to get covered. If it happens in the States it's going to get covered. North Korea affects Japan, S. Korea, Australia, etc., it's going to get covered. Places such as Africa do not get covered for the simple reason that nobody really cares. That's why Kosovo gets massive media coverage on racial genocide, cities under siege, and the rest, whereas in Africa you simply hear the news snippet: "In other parts of the world, 20,000 tutu's from Rwanda were massacred today blah blah blah. Now, in sports ... "

Al Jazeria is based in the middle east, so of course they are going to cover it.

So how come they don't cover other more important issues in the middle east?

Like the complete neglect of women's right throughout it.

Or the lack of political rights in basically the entire middle east.
Where humans can just be taken and shot at spot for suspicion of doing something bad (Syria).... Or perhaps having hands and legs removed as proper punishment (Saudia Arabia), maybe they should focus on the fact that muslims are still enslaving others (Libya/Sudan) ... But if we are focusing on occupations, how come they never focus on the occupation in Lebanon (Syria again)?

I mean it may just be me, but I don't think Israel/Palestine is the worst thing in the middle-east if we take it all in a humanitarian perspective.

Its not like Al J. is a Palestinian TV channel - they don't have to devote a lot of their coverage on that crisis alone, especially when much worse thigns are happening.

And of course, lets not forget the third world disasters of Africa and Asia are much closer to the Middle-East then to the USA...
