Tutorial on creating those hard house basslines

Ok,

This is my first attempt of writing a tutorial, so don't take it too hard on me!

There was a question in another thread about how to create those fat sounding basslines you hear in hard house tracks. I messed around with some synths and this is what I came up with.

I have used the following waveform to create the bassline:

waveform

Download this waveform and put it in your favorite synth. Because I didn't do much of tweeking to it, I used the 3XOsc in Fruity. Assign one of the oscillators to this waveform and assign another one to a standard saw wave. Change the freq and volume settings until you get the desired result. This shouldn't be the hardest part, because the waveform on its own should make the desired sound.

Now add another synth, for example the junglist to make the deep sounding sub bass. Put them together and fiddle around until you get the sound you are looking for.

Now add some fx, for example a compressor, because the bassline might sound a bit soft. Keep the attack and release settings low, to get that more punchy sound. Also add some distortion, to get that raw sound. Experiment until satisfied.

Now this is about it, you should now have that screaming bassline you were looking for.

Example Loop

If you have any other questions/additions feel free to leave them here. I hope this may have helped some of you.

cheers,
iLLicit

a typical phenomen of this forum since longer time...a good tutorial and even no replies, but when some newbie wants to know if he should buy a studio for 20000$ or buy Fruityloops 30 replies with recommendations to buy Cubase or Reason...

but back to topic: Good waveform you used.
Thank you very much for the tutorial, good hints in there, and very useful !

Cool

thats nice stuff mate

another tip with hard house basses is just to have them playing like this...

K: X---X---X---X---
S: --X---X---X---X-
B: --XX--XX--XX--XX

(k = kick, s = sub, b = mid bas)

if you listen to most hard house tunes, the basses are constructed that way, works well live, so you kno its good
