my poor car is gone....

Just thought id vent, well i live in miami and well its gets flooded on th streets, so i was driving my poor car over some water, apparently water got in the exhaust, into the intake and then my engine is gone. No compression apparently. Repair guys say its not repairable, cheaper to get a new engine.... damn funny when simple things like water cost you 10k.....enough rant....

yeah, what happens is if water gets into your cylinders, unlike the gas/air mixture in there, water does NOT compress hehe, so the piston comes slamming down and busts itself blow rings, shoots out rods, that kind of thing. THat sucks man, I dont even know what do to do about that

Dude...that sucks. I know like 15 people who lost their cars in the last week due to water (i.e. Isabelle)....and another 5 who f-ed up their cars driving through the flooded streets just like you did. I never realized that you can ruin you whole engine like that. I'll think twice before flying down my flooded street (which seems to flood every week because of rain) Sorry to hear bout your luck tho.

Hmm...exhaust is in the back...intake is in the front. If you were driving I doubt that the water came through the exhaust since the car would have been running and blowing exhaust out. What most likely happened was your intake sucked up the water into the cylinders and from there all hell broke loose. Very nasty way for the engine to go. What kind of car do you drive?

I got an Acura Integra and my cold air intake I installed is only about 7 inches off the groud...anytime I see a puddle across the road, I turn around and go another way. No way in hell I'm risking blowing my engine.

Sorry to hear about your loss, but look at it as a learning experience.

Your engine got HYDROLOCK, the prob is when the engine sucks water on the intake not the exahust (SP?) if the exhaust gets cloged the car won't run, but if it sucks water (water doesn't compress) so it breaks parts (cilinders, combustion chamber, etc....)
