Ok, I know there is a the big "headfones" thread, but I've tried searching under: mdr* 250* under "search under this thread", and i get no results. I'm sure there is probably talk of them in that thread, but im not gonna go through all 38 pages again, sorry

I live in australia, and Dick Smith electronics (dse.com.au) are selling them for $75 AU, but the RRP on sony's site is $65. I'm gonna go in and check if dick smith are selling it at $65, since i think they just havent updated their webpage yet.

Ok, as anyone had any experience with them, or know lots about them?
What are they like in terms of:
A) Practicality (single-ear monitoring and are they too big/small etc)
B) Long-lastingness / wear and tear (will shit snap real easily, or the swivels break etc)
C) Comfort (in terms of ear-cup size, headband hurting etc)
D) Sound Quality (not a MAJOR issue for me unless they are REALLY REALLY bad. eg. worse than the cheap $25 pair of huge-arse phillips im using atm)

If the MDR-v250's are REALLY _THAT_ BAD, could someone suggest something around the same price range .. like no more than $80 australian. I'm looking for a set of headphones to use whilst mixing on the computer at non-high volumes (and maybe later when i get decks later on, but not at clubs/parties etc).

It would also be nice if i could wear them out in public without looking like the biggest dork of 2003. The mdr-v250's kinda look similar to the one eminem uses in 8mile .. so yeah .. theyre not too bulky, and seem practical for public use.

They really are pretty much junk.

Consider the Ultrasone HFI-650. It's hideously out of your price range, but... It's one of the few good DJ headphones that are easy to get in Australia. Check this webpage, hell, email the guy who runs it for advice.

Hmm.. but compared to other stuff available in that price range, is it reasonable to buy it? As I mentioned before, i couldn't really care less about the sound quality unless its really really shit. I have never tried any good DJ headphones so my standards of what sounds decent is really lower than yours

It's not just sound quality, it's durability, utility, reliability, noise isolation, design, and did i mention durability? Yes, they suck badly... email the guy at that webpage for advice...

We do not stock and have no intention of stocking Sony headphones at this
time or in the future. Sony is a market brand that spend more money on
advertising than R&D for their products and therefore are generally
outclassed by products that cost less, all it takes is a little research!
The entire VXXX range of Sony headphones are notorious for sounding
terrible, being poorly made, uncomfortable and overpriced.
Having said that, there aren't actually many headphones worth mentioning in
the sub $100 mark for DJ use, most headphones in that range all sound pretty
similar and are built rather poorly (they'll fall apart fairly quickly)
The bottom line really is how much you're prepared to pay.
We just received a demo model of the new Ultrasone DJ headphone which is
priced around the $250 mark and so far it seems like an excellent headphone
for the price. Durable, comfortable and great sounding.

So what do you think you are gonna do, bent? Not all Sony headphones are bad... but Australia is not a good place to buy DJ headphones... think of this as one of the very big and important purchases, like buying the right mixer...

I love my pair of Sony Eggo's... Then again, they aren't really DJ headphones

Yeh well I don't wanna have to spend money on headphones now, and then still spend money on headphones later because they have broken. The thing is, when you guys say headphones break from DJ use, is this from club-style rough use? Cuz I've been using my VERY CHEAP 'n' NASTY Philips SBC-HP140's for a few months, and they haven't "broken" yet. Perhaps its because they don't have swivelling earcups, but yeah i dunno ... To your dismay Gluegun, I'm still POSSIBLY thinking of getting the MDR-V250's only because the one's you suggested (which I think r mega-sexy, and look sturdy)are twice as much as the 250's .. :/ Money is a major issue for me, and I'm still not sure if i'm gonna be DJin' with real decks yet, since my bank account has only been increasing sloowwwwly On the other hand, I don't want to have to buy a new pair of headphones in a few months :|

I suggest you go to some music stores and electronics stores and stuff, and just buy something that looks like it has decent build quality. good luck.

I don't think that the MDR-V250V's are worth even half of what Sony Australia charges for them. They may not be worth even $30 AU, let alone $65 AU. I've heard them briefly, on middle-of-the-road home audio equipment - and they sound mud-tacular. Even worse, they're terribly uncomfortable to wear; they squeeze your ears painfully against your temporal bone. Worst of all, they're extremely flimsy - their thin, cheaply made plastic headband will snap in a matter of weeks if not days.
