Dunno Key locking

Hi,

I just went out and bought a Numark TTX1 , man that thing rocks! Never having had a turntable before I can't comment on the differences between it and something else, but it seems to be pretty good.

One of the features on it is "Key locking", where you set the pitch so that the song is in key with the other song, hit "Key Lock", then move the pitch so that the beats line up. Now your incoming tune will be in key with the outgoing one, and also the same BPM. All well and good. In the shop when I was trying it out the guy had his big sound system set up so that I could hear it, and I didn't pick anything out of the ordinary.

However, at home with my small stereo and good headphones, I can hear a noticeable double beat when using this feature. It's so bad that I don't want to use it when recording to CD, I don't want people thinking that I can't beatmatch!

Has anyone else used this feature? Any comments? Is it different on other turntables/CD Decks, or is there something about the key locking algorithm that makes the double beat inevitable?

Key lock works fine on my Pioneer CD deck... I suggest not to use that feature on a live song and do it before the mix

Those are called artifacts. That happens on my STR-80's that I use at home. It's not a feature that I ever use though.

I would never use such thing.
My advice is>> learn how to beatmatch without it , don't get use to it and try not to use it at all .
what would you do if a club book u and their TT's don't have the key b...? ....
yep, you'll be fucked!

Dude it sounds like he CAN beatmatch, just that when using this "key changer" feature, it makes his mixes sound like trainwrecks..

I have that same problem too. In short, I never bothered figuring out how to fix it. I just switched to the phono inputs and it eliminated the double beat. You can't use the key lock with the phono input, but for me at least, if I want to use key lock, I just burn the track to cd and use it on my CDJ-100
