got a question about mp3 hard drives

I'm trying to record my own mixing...but i bought a MiniDisk instead of a MP3 hard drive and was unable to upload my mixes to my computer to burn. The quality of the MD is very good...but due to unable to upload, I was just curious is MP3 hard drives may be better. I know they cost around 300, that's why I'm asking any of you peeps. I wanna know if the quality is considered CD quality and is it possible to upload to my comp so i can make my mixes into a cd.

Thanks in advance.

The best hard drive based player at the moment is the Ipod, but they are much more expensive than other models with similar capacity.

The iPod has no line-in recording capabilities.

Maybe I misunderstood his post, but is that a requirement ? If not, I'd go with the Ipod if you have the cash.

He wanted to record his mixes.... btw, I got a 20gb iPod and wouldnt trade it for any other player (well except for the 3rd gen pods ). But the biggest problems I have with the iPods are: no recording capabilities and no on-the-fly playlist editor.

well the thing is

Yes i know the archos. But the one i was talking about (the $300 ones) have a line in. This capability are only available on the archos 3, and certain nomad jukebox. The most important thing that i wanna know is if the quality of the recording is good. I've checked best buy, and circuit city, and the onlt place i've seen it is at sears...but the main thing is still about the recording quality and also the fact if it's possible to upload to my computer(it's a PC not a MAC).

the best right now is actually the Nomad Jukebox Zen - it sounds better than the iPod, has the same battery life, and is about $100 less.

from what i understand, you can record with them and transfer them onto your computer without any problems. they are virtually portable hard drives in that sense. as for the recording quality, i have no idea... i guess it all depends on the quality of its A/D converter and the cables you use.

If you want a mp3 player that will record and do much more, look at the new iRiver model. I forgot the model number, but it does virtually everything u could want in a small, portable "hard drive".

But in terms of looks, iPod wins hands down. It kicks ass.

The Archos, in my opinion, is the best MP3 player/recorder etc out there. You can record in straight wave format, so with 20GB, you can record about 38h of uncompressed music (if you batteries can last that long!). You download to your computer so that you can burn your mixes to cd, and if you want to go longer then you can start compressing your data in MP3 format. I believe it offers a wide array of bit rates including 320kbps (highest MP3 quality availible).

Since it is the fad to get larger HDs, the 20GB will be decently priced. Just ask yourself if you really need the capability of recording more than 38h at one time! If you do, then can you compress it to get 50+ or more hours...all on a 20GB
