Totally do-able... easier than live mixing since the better computer DJing programs can very accurately calculate the BPMs of MP3 tracks... no need to beatmatch. The best program out there right now for DJing is the reborn version of AtomixMP3 called Virtual DJ...

I've done quite a number of full-length (70-80) minute mixed compilations where the mixing and transitions are near flawless. But of course, you have to move on up to REAL djing sooner or later.

basically your a whore if you use auto bpms on anything if you are that experienced where you feel like saying "o i can do this blind lemme just use auto bpms for this mix" then obviously you can't do it blind. i hate auto-bpms it takes away from everything that is apart of djing at least the first and most imporstant step of it. i persoanlly use a comination of final scratch, my original vinyl collection and pcdj red,pcdj-fx none with auto bpm scanned or auto gain. just get used to it. you have to beat match stop looking for easy ways out. practice practice. i've trained 4 people so far and they have all become fantastic djs. it just takes time and the willingness to learn. peace off.. thank your drive thrue - n0 LaG 2 table 1a l8z

if you are only going to go as far as djing on the computer for yourself or whatever, go ahead and use autobpm, not like you need to practice beat matching or something. and tempest, if ya go final scratch, why do you use pcdj?

Ok, i was just making sure i wouldnt be dissed in the DJing world for doing some computer DJing before getting my actuall equipment. My moms getting some good money from selling our excess tack(horse equipment) on Ebay, so hopefully ill be able to get my stuff soon.

i use tractor along with my decks (2 cd 1 vinil)think its the best but since im using cd decks and vinil decks with it the auto bpm dosent work also i think your takeing away from the art of djing if you use auto bpm

I started out using Traktor on the pc, i had no idea about mixing but gradually learnt and could mix fairly well (so i thought) on my computer. Made a few mix cds relying totally on the auto-sync function to keep the tracks in time and i thought it sounded great.

Now after owning turntables for a year i listen to old mix cds i made with traktor, the beats are always a little off. You can't rely on the auto-sync, it just doesn't work properly. The only way to mix with these programs is to do it by ear and even then the tracks will be in time and then magically drift off beat when they are supposedly travelling at exactly the same bpm.

Still they are good fun to play around with...

I use Traktor DJ Studio 2, it works. U can get pretty perfect beatmatching and do some cool stuff with it, but I get bored after 20minutes of mixing, its just too easy. If you don't have turntables like me, its alright, but it does get boring after a while, thats why I'm getting tables pretty soon

I don't think that's a very fair statement, I mix on my computer and I hate it. I don't mix MP3s because I want to, I mix MP3s because I have to, because I can't afford decent gear atm. I practice a LOT with my computer and I try to develop my techniques and mixes as much as possible with it. Just because a computer HAS the option of auto-mix and auto-bpm, does that not make me a DJ? I _NEVER_ use auto-bpm or auto-mix.

Traktor is definitely the best program out there, unfortunately my computer is too old and shitty to run it, so I'm forced to use Atomix. I really hate Atomix because of its stupid visual beatmatching Beat visualization is the worst! Just because you can see the beats doesn't mean they're going to sound good lined up with each other. You need to be able to hear how one beat will complement the other, the fact that Atomix doesn't give you a way to do this just SUCKS.

Even though I mix mainly with MP3s right now, I'm going to agree with everybody who said that vinyls are the way to go. Much more fun to learn with and much more fun to mix.
