I have never used the Pioneer's but I will say this...

when I was looking for headphones, all I read was to stay away from the 700s. That they break pretty easily.

so if you buy the 700's you may end up with the Pioneers in less then a year anyway. So then you can compare.

What about the Sony 600's?

Well, the Sony MDR-V600's are even worse than the MDR-V700DJ's. The V600's have practically no bass response - only upper-bass/lower-midrange bloat. And the low mids tend to overpower and muddy the rest of the sound from the V600's.

I have a pair of Pioneers and can testify that they go very loud without distorting, they can probably pop your eardrums without breaking a sweat...the bass on the Pioneers is also very very loud but it doenst drain out the treble, they're a solid buy

Yeah the Pioneer's go quite a bit louder before distorting than the Sony's do. Plus mine broke in a year as well. Go with the pioneers.

YOu will have to test em yourself. However, from testing both Sony MDRV700 & Pioneers HDJ1000, I liked the Sony MDRV700 better. Specifically, I liked because I felt they were better to beatmatch. The Pioneers are a bit exaggerated with the space type sound, even when with the mono switch on...
Besides that, the ear cup hole where the small monitors are at are smaller on the pioneer, while the sony's monitor in the inner cup is much bigger, almost the size of the actual cup, which works well with one ear monitoring.

As you can see, you've got different opinions going into this thread. Its best you try them out for yourself. As far as loudness, ive never gotten the MDRV700s to distort, and they go loud without a problem,and they have serious bass. For the Pioneers, same thing, lots of bass and dont distort at high volumes.
The only downside to the Sony's is that engineering issue they have that the plastic swivel cracks on them.. that happened to mine about 15 months (and that happens to everyone), after using them. If you get to play out and you get paid $ for them, id say they would be worth it.
Read the headphone thread, it has a lot of good useful info. Another headphone worth mentioning, the one im using now is the Technics RPDJ1200 (black). Very nice sound, easy to beatmatch and comfortable, and also the Sennheiser HD25 (not the SP version).

I just got my Sony MDR-V700DJ in September on a labor day sale and paid extra $20 for 24 month replacement warranty, so I will make sure I break it in 24 months I love them so far, after my $20 Labtec headphone it is like being wonderland so I am not the one to compare it with other headphones

do the sonys really break that easily? if they do that realllly sucks. has anyones lasted longer than 15 months? how unbreakable are the pioneers?

also for anyone who has tried both: which one can widthstand higher volumes without distorting while beatmatching? thanks everyone

i've had my sony 700s for two years and they still work fine and havent cracked nor do they show any signs that they are going to crack. thats not to say that they won't, cause alot of people's have cracked. i actually like my headphones, i dont know what all the bad press about the 700s is all about. if the crack alot, that sucks but they work fine before they crack. lots of bass, easy to beatmatch with. my only gripe is that they are pretty heavy.

I havent seen or heard any major complaints about the pioneer headphones, only like one person i read somewhere where theirs had snapped off the swivel part, and a couple of ppl here and there complained that one side was louder than the other, but i believe its minimal and no many ppl.

As far as the sony's... I would do what Energized did and get an replacement warranty for 24 months. Hell, thats a great idea.

Energized: what was the price with warranty and all? Just to compare to pioneer HDJ1000 final price.

Actually, I've read at least a couple of ppl that have had problems with the HDJ-1000's breaking - at the wire connection between the left and right earpieces, thus resulting in the right channel pooping out.

I use my sonys 4 nights a week with no problems

Yes eventually they will crack, but eventually sennheisers pop a cone or the lead snaps, etc etc

Every pair has its ups and downs- they are all good phones- bottom line is you wont go wrong with any of them.

If my sonys crack after a year ive still got 52 weeks x 4 nights of use out of them....more than happy with that
