As far as control surfaces go for Cubase, I'd definitely have a look at the Mackie Control Universal. 100ml P&G faders.... mmmmm. Works for Cubase SX 1.03 and higher apparently. I was seriously considering getting one untill I realised I have SX 1.01. They're not that expensive either, considering the prices of some control surfaces, and as mentioned, its expandable.
I wouldn't even consider the Houston controller myself. There was a website up a while ago called houstoncontroller or something. I think Stienberg may have had it shut down by now, but it was this huge site made by someone who had experienced heaps of problems with the board. Unacurate and bad customer service for it.
Def have a look at the mackie control, its the same as the Logic control pretty much, only it doesn't work with Logic.
I got a little lost with some of your abreviations, but you mentioned the 01v, so I take it you are looking at getting a digital mixer as well. I'm not too sure how well the digital mixers are configured to software sequencers. I think there is a Digital Tascam that is made for DAWs. The 1884 or something. I forget. There's also the roland si-24 for a digital mixer. I'm pretty sure this is supported by Cubase.
