I understand that ur friend is probably trying to find some tables for cheap, but I am sorry to rain on the parade. I have used both tables, and they made be alright for mixing on, but for scratching..............You need reaction, torque, something that will handle a beating, definitely noooooo plastic platters...
Get a used pair of Technics, or a pair of Numark TTX_1's...Spend the money now, cause you will save down the road. Don't chince on the mixer either. Get something that has a replaceable x-fader, reverse x-fader switch, doesn't bleed, and faders glide real nice without all sorts of noise.
It will make it easier to learn on better equipment, it may be good to learn on crappy equipment(sorry for whoever uses it) because you will be prepared for anything in the clubs, or in front of any audience. I was at this debate at one point, please trust me
