Review: Richie Hawtin @ Roxy Blu

As I stood there last night, I thought if I've ever been to a worse party in my live.

I realized I've never been to one.

I will never see Richie Hawtin EVER again.

That's why I didnt go. Seen him 2ce already, and w/the exception of 1 song during each set, I didnt care for his style at all.

Nat you don't understand. His style is COMPLETELY differant than July.

The only way I can describe it is REALLY SLOW Progerssive Acid Electro. It's music that you have to be on MANY differant drugs to enjoy much less understand.

And don't even get me started with Magda. That woman should not be allowed on the decks. That was the most fucked up music I've ever heard.

Graham, he's on tour for his new album, Closer.

Have you given it a listen yet? That's what you should have expected.

I personally like that kind of thing, but not as big party music.

That was the worst fucking techno night I've witnessed EVER!

Magda should be deported, that was disastrous. If you thought Richie was crap last time(lthought I don't remember much of that night), good think you weren't there yesterday, Richie completely lost me. I don't dig that nopace-acidic-electro-progressive and I have no clue wtf was up with so many useless vocals in "techno"????
For 20 duckets that was highway robbery not to mention $7 drinks

I'm not so sorry I missed this one now...

However, I'm a HUGE Hawtin fan, but to me he seems to have peaked with DECKS, EFX,& 909 in terms of his recent material...

I'm quite surprsied you guys are freaking on Magda so much, since @ DEMF this year, her set was the best I saw.. better than Juan Atkins, Derrick Carter, Derrick May, etc.

Well, sucks that the night wasn't what you were expecting. I try to use the venue as a guide, and ROXY has a knack for bringing out the worst in a DJ/night whenever I'm there

I heard about Hawtin ... he's fucked up. Sometimes he'll play really down tempo shit and when he feels like being a BOD MON .... he'll dropp the HARDEST shit ever!

hence the diff. between seeing "Richie Hawtin" vs. seeing "Plastikman"...I think everyone *should* have expected something more downtempo, especially, as mentioned, given his latest album...but it sounds like it was even less than what anyone expected...that sux.

I'll be seeing a couple of friends tonight at System who went and are HUGE Hawtin fans...I'm curious to know what they thought.

Damn...I haven't been to Roxy Blu in a LONG time...part of why I wanted to go...nice space...last time was for Kruder & Dorfmeister a LONG time ago
