Evil1 Are they going to lower CDs prices?

With Sarah McLauglin's new CD release she and her record company agreed to reduce the price of her new album. I'm wondering if all other artists and record companies will follow suit. I've been hearing rumors like this for quite awhile now. It's ridiculous how we pay for CDs as much as DVDs It costs us $20 here and $35 in Britan!! It's no wondering how much pirating is there on the net. They ripped us off - we return the same favor

I understand that priracy will never be completely stopped. If the RRIA and their greedy goons stopped being blind by their greed maybe they'll see that it's much more sense to lower the prices of cds. That way everyone, many, are content.

Prices went down as of Oct 1, 2003. I didn't notice it at first but they're out there. Remember the only CD prices that have gone down so far are Universals. Futureshop now sells 5 different Universal CD's each week for $9.99 and they are all new releases. The regular cost of them are anywhere from $12.99 to $14.99. Sunrise has also followed suit and you can get many CD's now at 2 for $20. You have to look for CD's with a code on the front. Those are the ones that will be lower than others.

Their other tactic is going to be raising the prices of blank CDs.

True, but the RIAA is lobbying for higher fees levied to them on the purchase of blank cds. You already pay a levy to them when you buy blank cds.

I buy lots of music (as well as downoload), but I would buy alot more if the average electronic music cd didn't cost close to $30 for one 70 min. disc.

truth be told i dont buy cdsreally because most of the cds are crap!

the only cds i've bought in the past 3-4 years = GU compilations, Coldplay albums & dr dre 2001.... i dont mind spending 30-40$ once ever 3-4 months when a new GU comes out, but i'm so not going to spend 10, 20, or 30$ on an album when 15 out of the 20 songs are pure crap!

True, but the problem here is actually geo-economical. A majority of "our" electronic music albums are on labels in Europe. Thus making our prices skyrocketed to "import" prices.

Buying GU comps over there is like a regular disk. (well I can at least speak for the UK, the rest I dunno)

with the internet, people should start ordering direct from record labels. its so much cheaper, expecially with indie labels out there. a lot of punk music i buy is like 20-30 bucks at HMV, while the label will sell the cd for 10 bucks or less. after shipping, its super cheap, especially if you buy a bunch of them at once..
