i had the same problem. for some reason acid sounds like crap when recording from a mixer....try unpluging the power cord and running the laptop just on battery. this helped remove a lot of noise for me but to remove all the noise just use sound forge (originally made my sonic foundry but recently bought out by sony). once i started using sound forge the problem completely disappeared.

Make sure you don't insert the AMP exit on your laptop. Use the TAPE exit.

You might wanna try a program called Audacity. I use it and it has great sound quality. And dunno if this matters, but you might wanna try to upgrade your sound card. I just did and it sounds teriffic

i don't know what kind of laptop you have, but i wouldn't recommend using a laptop unless it had a line in jack. if you use a mic, you wont have good sound quality because it wasn't built for heavy music recording. the line in jack however was built for recording. soundforge or cool edit are probably the best programs to record the music, and if you're using windows, make sure that your recording source is the line in, and not the mic. to do this follow these steps:

1) in the bottom right, double click on the speaker icon
2) click on options --> Properties
3) under "adjust volume for", click on "recording", click on OK
4) under the column for "line in", click on select. this is where you wanna increase or decrease the recording volume. or you can mess with it on your mixer

also, a little reminder, before you start recording, make sure that you check the levels with your recording program. you wanna make sure that you always stay in the green, and only occasionaly go into the yellow bands of the sectrum. you never, NEVER wanna go in the red, cuz that will give you too much noise in your recording.
