Am I in deep shit?

I've just completed my first tune using FL studio. I use a sh*tload of vst's and my computer can't handle them. Now, of course I don't want to give any of them up, but I can't export my song to .wav !
Everytime I do that fruity just stops rendering certain instruments and they are missing in the final exported wav file

This is of course something I can NOT live with and I have to find a solution to this problem. So I ask you: what do you do when your computer can't handle all your vst's and stops rendering instruments in a wav export? Has it even happened to you?

(btw. my biggest concern is reaktor 4 which houses my main lead synth in the tune, but other instruments are missing as well)

buy a new computer.

recently my computer has been struggling with playback in reason and cubase. I have been using tons of fx and other things in reason. And in cubase, 25 audio tracks with 3 or so vsts and effects per track really lags down the system.

Either buy a new computer, or learn to work within the limits of your existing one.

Export your individual patterns to wav and use those instead of the vst instances. So yeah just go into pattern mode, find some of the patterns that use synths that take up a lot of cpu power, and export those to wav.

Yeah I've been thinking about doing that, seems it's teh only way to export the tune correctly

About buying a new computer, I already have a Pentium 4 2.8 ghz and 512 mb DDR RAM, so upgrading to anything better than that will cost a thousand dollars only for a new CPU, that's only 400mhz faster (not to mention a new motherboard).
but of course I could alway spend 2000$ on an intel Xeon processor

You're running into problems with that system? Strange.. I can run alot of stuff just with my P4 1.7, 1024 SDRAM.

Anways, instead of buying a new CPU you could overclock your system. Getting a P4 2.4C to 3GHZ is appearently pretty easy with a good heatsink and fan, so a 2.8 should be an even better starting point.

the Xeon 3.06 GHz 1MB cache is only $1079 CND. a very possible option.

Wow, I think that you could probably arrange things more efficiently if you're maxing out that system...

Playing back synths in realtime and having the output rendered are two different things. If your CPU can't handle the load it's given, the playback will begin to stutter, this ofcourse has nothing to do with rendering out the track. No amount of VSTi's should cuase the track not to render properly, the only thing that will happen is you'll end up waiting for some time. I have a P4 2.8 Ghz CPU as well and it takes me 20-40 mins to render a track, which ofcourse depends on the amount of things I've got going on.

The single best suggestion I can make to lighten the burden on your (in your case, very fast) CPU is to buy a TC powercore pci card or firewire rack and use it's effects. State of the art effects and no CPU drain.

i had a problem some time ago with the track just stopped rendering.
couldn't find what was wrong at first... but then i noticed that it was becaus for some reason VAZ2010 and FM7 couldn't be used togheter.

i can use them togheter now with no problem.. but that was the problem i had then.. could be something like that for you..
