multimedia laptop

for college next year instead of draggin my whole PC to college i want to just buy a good laptop and need some suggestions..

i need to be able to hook up my logitech speaker system, so i need two Line Out outputs, and I need Line In to be able to record my mixes.

i also want to plug in my LCD monitor to it so how would i be able to do that?

Good luck man finding a laptop with 2 line outs, I've never seen one before, but hopefully there is one, I'm getting a laptop soon, either a Dell Inspiron 5150 or 8500, they seem pretty good, I would recommend them for there spec and price, but theres no 2 lineouts though.
Does it have to be 2 completely seperate lineouts?, because maybe you could get one of those male jack to 2 female jacks plugs.

Yea every laptop has one of those, but there more of a Speaker Out, so you can change the volume, whereas the Line Outs on my soundcard are a fixed volume.
I dunno why there ain't laptops with kickass soundcards in, I guess manufactures don't see a point, or there isn't room or something.

Do what I did bro: Get yourself one of the new uber-nice Apple PowerBook G4 15"s, and then spend $60 on the M-Audio Sonica external soundcard (has AC3, DTS, etc). This way you get the sexiest, most stable laptop ever, and amazing sound through the soundcard. Honestly, I can sing nothing but praises for my current set-up. The laptop has a 15.2" widescreen, CDRW/DVD (slot loading, no less), 60GB HD, and is just over 1 inch thick (like 1.1"), and it cost me a $2,000 USD (if you're going to be a college student, Apple offers you a discount). I have it hooked up to the Sonica, which connects via USB, to a Yamaha receiver (optical cable) and my Mirage sound system. It sounds awesome when I'm in the room, and when I'm out I have my iPod (which works so well on an Apple computer its wicked).
Seriously look into it.

Extigy, that's exactly my point! But I think you definately need a docking station. If you have to do some actual WORK behind a laptop you'll end up screaming mad...
Also, I don't know how it's arranged at the college where you're going, but at my university there's a discount project especially for new students.

(not that that's any good for you, but my point is that it's a good thing to look around for something similar at your new college...)
