The Kashmir Issue - A change from the usual Jewish vs Arab verbosity...

Ok, I've had about enough from the attention whores in the Middle East... All that bickering is going no where so I thought I might change the subject a little bit...

Im not surprised that this issue doesnt get that much coverage since its relatively isolated and only heats up once every 5 years or so. But I think its the one single conflict that can potentially spell massive nucleaur damage - not to mention the inherent dangers if terrorists manage to get a hold of some nukes in Pakistan.

It looks like a disaster in the making. One of these days we're going to look back at the wasted landscape and nucleur powered terrorist groups and wonder why we didn't pay more attention.

Any thoughts?

I honestly see no peaceful outcome to this conflict,
1. India will never allow Kashmir to become a part of Pakistan.
2. Pakistan will never give up on their claims to Kashmir.
3. Sadly you are right if this was to go to war, I think it would be nuclear if things get real bad for either side.
4. Unless they agree to split Kashmir half and half-also would never happen. What would the negotiated settlement possibly be.

You are correct on #1.

But unless you are stating it badly, number 2 is wrong. Pakistan does not "claim" Kashmir..they are supportive of the idea of self-determination of the Kasmiri people. Now the government of Pakistan believes that the Kasmiris will want to be part of Pakistan, but that is not the same as claiming the land.

#4 is not the only option...Kashmir could become it's own country, separate from both India and Pakistan. That is always an option and it is one the Pakistanis will by their current position on the Kashmir issue, most likely support.

The biggest hindrance to a peaceful settlement of the issue is the ideology of the Hindu nationalists who currently have a stranglehold on Indian politics. They will not compromise with the Pakistanis, while Pakistan has been at least on the face of things, appeared willing to talk openly with India under no preconditions and attempt to reach a peacful compromise.

As for the idea of terrorists getting a hold of Nuclear material in Pakistan that is a far fetched idea at best. All of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal (which is very few and not very powerful) are in parts that are scattered among several different military installations. So the chance of their being a loose nuke there is probably less likely than in the US, France, or Great Britain where the weapons are actually assembled.

The single most dangerous source of nuclear material is STILL the former USSR where there is thousands of tons of weapons grade plutonium and ready made nuclear weapons under very poor supervision. Not to mention the fact that NO ONE knows exactly how much plutonium was produced in the USSR because the logs were almost without exception doctored by plant managers so that they could use material produced in excess of their quotas one month to cover any future shortfall in their production.

Come on. We all know jews are behind this. It's not enough for them to be opressing the palestinians, they have to have their hands involved in Kashmir issue as well.
