Scratch Tour

Hey, did anyone see this in Philly?

We all went down on Friday to the TLA and got a show and a half. I saw this last year and will see it again for any more.

Here's my quick review for Scratch Tour in Philly.

Jazzy Jay - Threw down a nice old sckool hip hop set. Lets of classic bboy tracks, some great 80s feelin' tunes. He did a couple of tricks on the tables, some juggling and a few flares. I liked his set, just not the length. Jay warmed us up for about an hour, just a bit long I guess. Oh well, at least I got to break a bit.

Q-Bert - If you have never seen him live or on video, go out and get Scrath the DVD or see him at the next showing. It's worth every penny. Q mainly showed of his new toy, the QFO.

His set is always nasty, I mean nasty!!! I cannot put into word and keep the level of respect I have for him whne he gets on turn tables. He invented so many scratch styles that he truely is an innovator. All I can say is damn! for the QFO and for him showing us what it can do.

Z-Trip - OK, I have to say that Z-trip stole the show. His set was what we expect from hip hop DJs. He had a set built off of samples from every types of music there is. Cutting Snoop into Public Enemy to NWA to BIG and so on. His hype was great all night. Then he treated us with his set set built off 45s. That was the highlight of the night. He threw down a ROCK concert built off sample from Tears for Fear, Zepplin, Aerosmith, the Smiths, Aretha (sp?) Franklin, OMG I can't anme anymore. His set was my favorite.

The Executioners - I've always love these guys. Total Eclipse, Rob Swift, and Roc Raida. They are mainly scrathing and turntablism, but man do they put on a show. Did alot of tricks on tables. Did alot of team mixing (where one person would hit the fader, while the other scratched a table, while another is on another set of tables.). They had a SIX truntable setup! They could beat juggle all at once. Some great stuff!

All in all, that was a great show! I love turntablism, I love the ability recreate music so well. If anyone has the tour come your way, go see it.

Thanks for listen'!

Cheers,
Phil

YYeah, it was an awesome show.

Q-bert is one of the best treats you could ever give your ears and eyes. I can't put into word what he can do turn tables, a mixer, and a few records.

Plus Z-trip was inspirational.

Get the The Scracth DVD: History of Turntablism. It shows some highlights of event that you wold never see again.

There's no listing of when the next shows are. But keep an ear open for the next show. Besides, NYC always hosts the East Coast DMC regional championships.
