i have been spinning for a while now...and i still have no idea how often one should replace their needles. my ortofons came with two extra needles, and my freinds shure's are just the needle and cartridge in one.
we have no idea about cleaning and replacing such parts.

Look in the manual of your ortofons. It says:
We advise you change the stylus after 9 months if you play 3 records a day.
