Hello! Let's see who's the real trance addict!!!!

I was thinking about this question today and could not come up with the answer so I thought I'd post it here and see who is the ultimate trance addict.

When was trance first given the name of "TRANCE" how did it all begin?
and
If it was given by one person inparticular Who?
and
What was the first big song to start this new musical catagory?

I haven't been in this scene that long.......
and I'm sure about this but, I'm pretty sure trance came from the music genre " Goa " it just became more heightened....not sure when or how or who......but then again I could be wrong

I think it's kinda hard to say where rave ended and where trance began cause 10 years ago the word trance did exist but today we'd call 'trance' from 1990 hard goa or whatever...

Yeah AndiH your kind of on the tip of what I'm looking for, about 10 years ago when I first started going to "raves", songs like:

Channel x - A million Colors
Praga Khan - Injected with a poison
Human resource - dominator
Blue Pearl - Can you feel the passion

you get the idea were all called "rave music", however if you were to refer to some of these songs now you'd classify them as TRANCE, when and how did this all change?

oh well I think you can't classify them as trance as we know trance today...IMO the 'new' trance began when rave died cause it was too commercial and the artists had to find new ways...but I just can't name a single tune that defines trance

ok...I checked my old cd's...I'd say one of the first trance producers was cosmic baby and so I'd say cosmic baby - 'cosmikk trigger' is part of the beginning of trance, but that's my (german) point of view...

AndiH what year was Cosmic Baby, I've too been going through my old records and CD's and I seem to be hitting a wall around 1991 some of the people I've found are

THK
Golden Girls
and Havana

all of which would classify as trance even under todays standards IMO.

I think that there is no exact date where goa turned into trance, but more of a gradual evolution. I will go dig up some old records in my attic if I can find any, and I'll post them tonight, but right now i gtg to my day job! yippee...

It originally all was a blur of rave/trance. I suppose Sven Vath may have been the first guy categorized as 'trance', but I could be wrong... Like I said, tracks like these blur it:

Orbital - Halcyon + On + On (1989)
808 State - Pacific (1989)
Orbital - Chime (1990)

But, as i've said before, I think Pink Floyd - Learning to Fly (1987) is very trancey...

I think the answer is in the early 90s, when there was the Goa Trance and German Trance scenes... I'm no expert on Goa Trance, though...
