Final Scratch Question

I have a laptop that is Pentium 3 1 Ghz with 256MB of Ram on Windows XP Pro...

Anyone think I'll have any problems with it? Recomended is 700Mhz 256MB Ram, but I was just wondering since sometimes it doesnt even run ery well on recommended.

I think it will be fine as long as you disable some services.....such as messenger, server. For maximum efficiency you might want to change the look to Win2k style to save some memory. Disable fast switching....If you want to really get risky but saves alot of space and cpu...disable Restore, but I wouldnt recommend it. You should also have the latest winupdates.

If you can spare some money and get Win2k pro.....then I would recommend it, since it is more stable.

The way I understand it, FS partitions your HD and installs a type of linux for FS. This is because Linux is more stable that Windows.

Also does anyone know anything about the JBL Eon line? I am looking for some good speakers and since I don't have an amp powered speakers seem the way to go... I will be using these mostly in just for bedroom purposes, but occasionally to play at small parties and stuff...

I basically have the mac version of your computer. It basically has the same performance. I was also thinking of getting final scratch sometime down the road but if I were to, I'd keep the hard drive as empty as possible and have as few programs as possible. I would basically dedicate that computer to final scratch and get a different computer for other things. I'm not sure if you could do this or not. I guess it depends onyour funds and what you currently use you computer for. If it's just for school, then buy a new cheap computer for a few hundred bucks and use this one with final scratch. If you use it for gaming and the whole works then I don't really know what I would do.

Why do you want to use final scratch? Do you have a pile of vinyls and just want to use it so that they don't get worn out or do you want to use it to save money and not have to buy vinyls, and just bedroom DJ with mp3s? If you're have vinyls and just want to preserve them you might just have to bite the bullet and play the vinyls with your turntables. In my case I already have a pile of vinyls and would use it just to save on wear and tear. The decision is up to you.

If that is true, then your hardware is good enough. Good luck

Your CPU is fine, I had it running on an 866 P3 with 256 MB fine. I would recommmend getting more RAM tho. Yes it does run Linux on its own partition. I use my computer for FinalScratch and college work (internet/chat/mail/essays/programming/simulations/etc) and it works fine. Mainly because all the shit you have loaded on your windows does not matter as it is running of a different partition.

Hehe, Windows goes to shit so quick, if something happens I figure it was probably time for a fresh install anyway
