Well, today is the day. The day i find out my year 12 results. I get them in the mail today, and still have to wait another 3 or so hours, im so nervous! Are there any other Australian TA's who are getting their results today? The course i wanna get into requires a 92 TER so i dont think i have a chance with that, but fingers crossed anyway. I'll let you all know what i get later today.

i killed maths ill be surprised if anyone from my skool beats that (yeesh how up myself does that sound) and i did above average for my computers subjects, for chem and english not so good but i passed and thats the main thing....... cant wait till tomorrow to get my UAI...

Hehe, i bet ya i kicked your arse at maths! nah only joking, that was my worst subject. How does the system work in NSW?? In SA you get a score out of 20 for 4 subjects, then your worst subject gets a score out of 10. Then you are given a TER which is what percent you came in the state i think.

Just in case anyone's interested:
I did year 12 last year, and the exam nerves nearly killed me. The system here works like this: You get a score out of 50 for each subject. This is made up of School Assessed Coursework and an end of year exam - some subjects have two exams, one in the middle of the year and one at the end. They take your mark for english plus your top three subjects plus 10% of your fifth subject (if you did one). That makes up your aggregate score, then these are ranked and you get an Equivalent National Tertiary Entrance Ranking (ENTER) - so if you get say 98, that means about 98% of people in the country got lower aggregate score than you.

what i got today was just my HSC results

all that is is the end of year exams, and the scaled average of all the assessments throughout year 12 averaged together...

what really counts i guess is the UAI which gets ya into uni which is just a rank compared to the rest of the state, they scale it all kinds a ways an stuff and tkae into account all this weird stuff, notice how i cant specify anything, thats cause no one would explain it to me and i asked everyone possible

Got 89.15 TER (i.e. top 10.85% in the state) last year, which wasn't bad considering I completely fucked up maths (walked out half an hour into the second exam having answered like 20% of the questions.... still got a D+).

I think Victorian students got their marks back yesterday, and I've got a couple of friends doing year 12 this year (inc my next door neighbour) but still don't know how they went yet. Anyway, the advice I can give you is that the marks you get in yr 12 aren't as important as they make it out to be. For instance, one of my friends from school was expecting a 90+ TER and only ended up with sixty something: he thought his life was over at that point, and was considering forgetting about uni altogether. He fortunately decided to do a TAFE course (more for his parents sake than his own) and has done pretty well there all year, and is now a pretty good chance of getting into the course he wanted to do in the first place. So yeah, just remember, TER scores (or whatever the equivelant is in your state) isn't everything.

Though, of course, if you do get a good score then it's a certainly a bonus, yeah.

Yeah what Renegade says. I guess I can't talk, I got 98.75 (I was expecting about 80), but I know plenty of friends who got lower than they expected and they're all doing courses that they like now, or are going to transfer next year.
VCE can seem like the end of the world, but its not. Once you're out there are a lot of other ways to get where you want to.

...Yeah and as with everything, its better to think negative before you get the result and then you wont be disappointed, and will probably be pleasantly surprised.

I really dont think the TER is a good reflection of a persons intelligence and it definately gives no indication on whether or not a person will succeed in life... there is WAY too much emphasis placed on it

i dunno if you'll agree with me on this one, but i dont think many people are gonna know wat they want to do for the rest of their life at age 17 (in WA)... i certainly didnt.. and still dont
i have friends that went to those career night thingys... picked a career they thought looked funky, then went and did that course...
like cmon how can you find something longlasting and worthwhile over a nights worth of information...


for the record... i got a TER of 99.4, which is probably an indication of the amount of inbreeding that goes on in WA

Hey thats heaps good, nice work! Well i got my results and the nerves are over. I got a 94.7% TER which will almost get me into any course i want (apart from the engineering ones) and it is good enough to give me my first preference. Yay! So it looks like i'll be doing E-commerce at uni next year then....cool!

but your marking systems are very confusing. i guess you grow up with the stuff so you get used to it.

well its in for my UAI i got 79.25 and aint i pissed off i didnt get 80, it sounds so much better

but its enuf to get me into macquarie todo the course i want, and i did little to no work until about 4 weeks before exams so i guess its ok
