why I reckon the superclubs are dying over here

Its not very well thought out but does make some sense imo -

1)Trance gets big in America, the most popular DJs realise they can make a lot more money over there and start charging stupid amounts to play. The yanks are that thick that they pay up.

2)The same DJs then start charging the same amounts of money over here, except our clubs can't afford the same but yet think they need big names like Tiesto to fill a night.

3)They then start charging higher entrance fees to make a profit, reducing the amount of clubbers through the door.

what do you reckon? I think its all America's fault

I'll probably get slated for this but I don't care

Maybe its not as popular in this country anymore as it use to be. If they were to expensive to hire, then why the hell did they have the 4 best trance dj's in the world (imo) at Gatecrasher?, they could have had a crapper line up and still charged the same amount. So i can't really justify your explanation on this subject.

Cos regretably some ppl judge a night by reputation and status of djs .. youd be hard pushed to pack out the nec with lineups including such djs as marc west for example ..

I'm not sure if superclubs are really dying over here, its more the role of the dedicated clubber that's dying.

Yeah i know GC is diversifying and all, but really, your average clubber goes to have a wicked nite, get mashed, possibly try and pull and just let it go a bit, i don't think the tunes played, or even the dj's billed are really that important for the greater majority of bods, i think at the top level of them you've got ur mixmag readers.

Your dedicated clubber sufers from the problem of remaining underground enuff to stay cliquey, so takes his tunes and his dj selection seriously, but is ultimaterly gonna get let down over time as either styles are changed against his favour, or that particular genre becomes mainstream.

And agreed, it does come down to a matter of cash as well. Lots of it. And it will always be alcohol that maks a club its money, not who's billed.

i partially agree rachael, but i also think it has a lot to do with the ppl that go clubbing. its always been the case that people were never happy with what they had. take gatecrasher for example: when prog was beginning to get bigger, everyone wanted prog. they got prog and then the crowd decided they wanted it hard. they got it hard and then they decided they liked it better trancy etc etc etc. all this leads to swings & roundabouts, promoters not really knowing if people will like the dj's they get in, and especially not taking the chances that they used to with regards to booking less known dj's.

you compare crowds at events like the NEC. 2 years ago, the place would have been full of the dedicated clubbers that tim is talkin about. at the 2nd NEC, i couldnt walk for more than 10 minutes around the complex without bumping into 1 or 2 people i knew from other nights out. this time round, i hardly saw any of the usual lot from GC and there were many many more people there who arnt really the same type of person as myself.

on behalf of the london lot, i apologise

there are too many beerboys these days. at GC london, as chris said there were enough people who were pissed as fuck and being a nuisance to those who wanted to enjoy the music. not quite as many as NEC as there was a greater proprotion of clubbers compared to beerboys.
