Why do we stay on turntables?
I'm not flaming or anything, and would appreciate it if i received no flaming in return, i am asking a simple question.
I have had Traktor DJ Studio for about six months, and i have now pretty much mastered it (except i only have a single channel sound card so i can't use headphones at the same time) and i would say the mixes i produce are flawless in technical terms. They're cued correctly, the fade unnoticably between tracks, the track don't clash, the beatmatching is constantly perfect etc etc etc. The quality of the mixing is parrallel to that of a professional DJ (except maybe the choice of tracks, but thats because i can't dl music at uni).
What is the point, therefore, of paying a professional DJ copious amounts of money to do something i can do, or indeed anyone else can do on a computer. I'm not saying the DJ profession is wrong in itself, but surly the elitism that surrounds turntables is wrong. Professional DJ's could do so much more with software mixing rather than hardware mixing, giving the consumer much more for their money.
I'm not closed to a reply, but i can see no reason for the turntable DJ to be 'superior' to the software DJ, i mean i know that turntable mixing is much harder (i have decks and i haven't mastered them after a couple of years, although it has to be said i haven't been trying hard) but that doesn't really matter because the output remains the same. Anyway, thats my thoughts, what do you guys think?
