Final Scratch vs CD decks opinions wanted!!

My current setup consists of 2 Technics MK2s and a mixer. I was wonder what you would do to expand. Do you think final scratch is worth the 500 bucks or would i be better off spending that 500 bucks on records?
Also, would I be better with CD Decks or final scratch. My preference leans towards cd decks simply cuz i don't want to deal with a computer and software that is gonna make shit more complicated than needs be. However cd decks are mighty expensive... any advice appreciated!!

I personally wouldn't get CD Decks cuz vinyl just seems more fun. As for final scratch, do you really need it? do you have a mac/linux? If this is only gonna be for home use i don't think it's really necessary, plus it tempts you to just dl tracks and use those where as sticking to vinyl you'd be sure to give producers the money they deserve. Yea of course dling tracks won't sound as great but if it's just for home use u proly wouldn't care, but if ur not just a bedroom DJ then you proly wouldn't abuse CD decks or Final Scratch.

So if you ur a DJ that gets out a lot, and u got a powerbook, Final Scratch wouldn't be that bad of an idea.

but think of all the great tunes you could get with 500 bucks , i personally would just spend it on vinyl if i was in ur situation

I'd go with Final Scratch, it's just sooo cool, and as long as you still get your normal amount of vinyl, FS will merely let you expand and toy around with differant styles and tunes.

I just put in my order for M-Audio BX-8's and Final Scratch 1.1.
This was precisly what made me decide to get FS. It will allow me to have fun and be creative with styles when just foolin' around/practicing. Plus, I will still buy tunes I really like since I'm goin need em to play out. Final Scratch is also a good investment since IMO it is only a matter of time before we see it as the standard in clubs. It allows you to carry around a ton of tunes without bringin crates upon crates of vinyl. This makes your life as the DJ easier, and allows you to have more options on what to play.

Overall the biggest thing I think is its good for practice and experimentation. It lets you download and play a bunch of tunes without having to burn everything to cd. This is def. good for just bein by yourself, or playing with a couple of friends. It also lets you change your style more. If you just played tunes you had on 12" you might never grow into a different style because you just didnt have the music, and you're not about to go and spend 10 bucks on a record you think wouldn't really fit into yours sets. With FS your options are limitless.

Just my .02.

I definately agree with Sym. I myself don't own FS yet, (soon to change). But think it's a great tool for developing your style. Even though I may not spin hip -hop at all, it can help you find out what you like and don't like.

Plus, how cool would it be to sample the vinyl you're going to buy with your collection? You could see how well you like the record mixing it, rather than just sampling it at the local record joint. I know I've bought records I thought sounded pretty cool at the store, but when I get home and try to mix them with my collection, it can all go belly-up. (And ends up moving to the back of the crate.)

What Sym and Blith suggested are the exact reasons why I'm buying me FS 1.1 in a couple of days. I've got to learn how to use MAC soon though .
BTW I know a place that sells 1.1 for 450 and that already include free US shipping...and around 499 or maybe a bit less for free worldwide shipping. Lets hope there are no complications while setting it up!

I hear that... the horror stories

But oh well, I put my order in and paid 909 total for a pair of BX-8's and final scratch 1.1 with free shipping. Shipping Cali to NY so hopefully I'll have them on friday when I return home from school, and finals
